A good translation of the cylinder by a renowned Assyriologist.The book is o.k. condition and delivered on time by Amazon.

Dieses Buch ist eine ausgezeichete einführende Darstellung des Kyros-Zylinders. Die Verfasser sind berufene Kuratoren des British Museum, wo der Zylinder bestens aufgehoben ist, die einen sehr nüchternen und vernünftigen kunsthistorischen Text trotz aller verständlichen Begeisterung für das Sujet erstellt haben. Fotos können Autopsie des dreidimensionalen Zylinders ersetzen, aber man sieht wenigstens große Teile des in Keilschrift geschriebenen altpersischen Textes besser in den Fotos in diesem Buch als am Kylinder im Museumsvitrine. Die Fotos vieler zum Verständnis des Zylinders im real- und kunsthistorischen Zusammenhang relevanter antiker Gegenstände sowie hilfreiche Karten und Zeichnungen sind auch sehr dankenswert.

I am very pleased with all aspects of this purchase.

We saw the Cyrus Cylinder when it was in DC. It was a tremendous find. The book brings out many more facts. I didn't know that Isaiah probably plagiarized Cyrus and substituted one God for another. Great men (and women) don't need to be defined by nationality or religion but rather the kindness and foresight they demonstrate. Human rights was important then and that is good to know.
