This is a light weight but solid gavel and block. I'd say it's suitable for light use such as social organization or other occasional use. It has a dark wood appearance and looks nice.

The gavel and block are very good. I am a teacher and bought it to use with students in mock trials. So far it has stood up to very enthusiastic use from students and has also served as a nice desk decoration between trials. If you are looking for a gavel I recommend this one.
