Top quality
Turned out to be much better quality than I was expecting. Heavy duty resin with quality mouthpiece. Really good value for money. And it sounds just like a saxophone should!

It's not worth the money because it doesn't work

Cheap and cheerful - probably not for children
I thought this might be an interesting instrument to try out, as a one time flautist many years ago. It's not really an entry-level into sax playing though, as of course it doesn't have keys and it's a totally different size. What this really is, it seems to me, is the mouthpiece and reed of a sax, slotted onto the body of a recorder. As such if you're familiar with the fingering etc. it might be worth a try.Be aware though, if you've never played a reed instrument before, that there is a real knack to just getting any kind of identifiably musical sound out of it. I am still, after several attempts, at the 'this sounds more like one of those duck calls you used to see on Elmer Fudd cartoons' stage of my sax development, I'm afraid!I wouldn't recommend getting this for a child as a cheap way of seeing if they'd like the sax - it's too different, and the reed isn't great, which makes it really hard to get a decent sound from it - you'd be more likely to put off said child forever! As an adult toy though, it's not totally without merit. But be prepared for long periods of frustration!

No instructions on how to assemble it
Cheap Chinese plastic item. No assembly instructions, so you have to guess how to assemble it, or spend time googling instructions! Not impressed, returning item....

I can now get a note out of it
I was ready to call it a day after the first few minutes with this. With no instructions included which I found odd given this is they type of instrument that a beginner may try I found the need to check some online tutorials. Having corrected the reed placement and watched some instruction videos on placement of the mouth and pressures I found I could get a note or two from it.Its not easy to play as the difference between a note and a sound which annoys everyone even the dog is all about bottom lip pressure on the reed. Ive had a few goes now and I can get a sound from it. Its not exactly a saxophone sound, not sure I would brave standing in an acoustic setting to full test the theory of this making a difference as probably hit a duff note which sounds like I stood on a cat!If you or a child wants to learn the instrument I wouldn't recommend this as the starting point - a bad instrument can quickly put you off wanting to learn. If however you want to dabble for fun then its ok, if anything it will help train the mouth muscles and get you the basics on how important mouth placement and pressure applied is. A shame no guide is included and ideally different grade reeds as the grade impacts on the tone and ease to play. having a few different ones included would have made a big difference.
