Very Good Value Heavy Duty Anvil Branch Shears
This branch lopper is very good value and strongly constructed. It has a ratchet mechanism to give leverage when cutting thicker branches, reducing the force required on the arms. The extendable arms themselves are metal, and unlikely to bend or deform in use. They can be extended easily by turning and locking. The cutting head is of stepped design on the anvil side, to help prevent the branch slipping outward under pressure. The cutting action is smooth. I recommend, as with all garden equipment, putting a thin layer of silicone grease over metallic parts to limit corrosion when stored in a shed. The substantial cutting head is made of thick metal, mostly, if not all, steel. The blade has a non-stick coating. As suggested by others, covering the foam handles with duct tape will prevent wear. This lopper is remarkably inexpensive at about £23, and is far cheaper and better than many similar cutters available both online and in a store.

Serious bit of kit
An example where the photo does not quite do justice to the end product. That's a double-edge sword (no pun intended) because you might get something a bit larger than you had intended yet also get something rather better than expected. These are big loppers with a very substantial jaw and quite a long handle (compared to the 'normal' ones I had previously) in the non-extended position, sturdily built but also, due to their size, quite heavy. They work very well for branches up to about 4cm max when the locking handles are extended but if you're cutting smaller branches they might seem too big for the job. After mine arrived I did start considering if I needed another pair that were a bit more 'handy'. But I am not at all disappointed in the quality and functionality of these loppers - if you're after quite a serious bit of kit, this is your man.

Handles flex too much
The handles seem to have a lot of flex in them so even with the ratchet mechanism, is difficult to cut through thicker branches. The ratchet mechanism isn't the best with it being quite difficult to go up through the notches. The telescopic handles also unlock all the time to keep sliding in and out.

Am-Tech Telescopic Ratchet Anvil Lopper
Robust and well made at reasonable price. The blades are slightly over 3 inches in length which allows one to tackle quite thick branches up to about 4cm without too much trouble, depending on hardness of the wood. The overall length from tip of blades to end of handles when fully extended is 39 inches, which gives good reach. The only caveat is that the cushioned handles are made from a type of foam which, from previous experience, starts to disintegrate after a very short time. To preserve the covering, I now cover the foam with Duck tape. UPDATE: I have just bought a second set of loppers after the twist turn mechanism broke on one handle after about 5 years of heavy use. The foam handles look just as vulnerable so I have again covered them with Duck tape immediately on receipt. However, I do like these loppers, so am willing to forgive this design flaw.

Heavy duty lopper
Arrived on time, these are great , quite heavy but works great. I had a rose bush that was growing straight up and I needed a good quality lopper because some of the branches were very thick and it grew very tall and with this lopper I was able to chop it down easily

Premium branch lopper
Competitive price, quickly delivered. Materials engineered to good standard. Will cut branches over 4cm with confidence. Ratchet function is great on larger branches and blade is sturdy. The only annoying aspect of this tool are the telescopic arms. They lock into place with a quarter turn. However they also unlock from position with a quarter turn anticlockwise. Sadly this happens all too often when cutting.Durability; I've spent 2 days systematically chopping up a felled tree & they're still going strong. In summary a great tool, good price & will get the job done efficiently. Will annoy you after 30 mins of cutting in all likely hood.

Good quality and excellent value
I'm very pleased with these loppers. Excellent quality for the money and easy to use. We've made great use of them and they easily cut through small branches without too much effort. The ratchet allows cutting of slightly larger boughs again without having to use to much effort. Having the ability to extend the handles is also a bonus and this doesn't detract from the effectiveness of the loppers.
