French in 10 minutes a day
I personally loved the presentation and the contents but I am very grammatically methodical and it suited my way of learning. I did not give it to my grand daughter yet as I felt it was not entertaining enough for a holiday catch up activity. I will use it with her in smaller doses as it moves quite fast.

Helpful.
My daughter started French in school aged 11 and loves it. She requested extra books to work through. I worried these would be too young but they are just right. She's really enjoyed using this book and is looking forward to starting her second year of French. Edit: I'm glad I bought this and it definitely fired up something inside her. She went on do take 4 language GCSEs and has just completed a 4 year streak on Duolingo. I think it was a good investment.

Good if your child already has a basic knowledge...
l like this range of books and bought several (maths, fractions etc) to help get my son ready for next year's SAT's but did think that this book assumed a higher level of knowledge than he currently has in year 5. None of the books give you any instruction on how to complete each task - so they are really all for revision only. My son has just moved school to one where there is greater focus on French. Previously they covered only the bare basics, colours, numbers, greetings etc. so I thought this would help but it does assume that the student will have covered some French grammar. For example, by page 8 the task is to use mon, ma or mes to translate phrases, but gives no explanation. By page 20 the task is to 'write the correct present tense form of the verbs'. It does cover some of the basics - numbers, animals etc later in the book but you do have to pick and choose what is relevant. I looked to see if there was a book for the younger age range (thinking it may cover some of the grammar basics) but don't think that there is one. I will keep using it and it will all be a good backup for homework over the next few years but it isn't set out in a way to teach - just to refresh existing knowledge. I might try the French Made Easy to see if that offers any more actual tuition.

Brilliant for eager early learners
My 9 year old Grand-daughter who lives in New Zealand wrote on her birthday wish list that she wanted a book so she could learn French. I did a research and bought this one. Its an absolute hit with her. Doing the 10mins a day and then some. My Grand-daughter now has her whole family involved talking in French phrases round the home. Even her 5 year old bother is giving it a go too. Best pressie award.

Needs a parent/helper who knows the language
This book is not for complete beginners unless there is a parent/helper who knows the language. For example, page 11 asks to write “He is 10” and “She is 8 years old”, when the “He is...” and “She is...” has not been taught. The book progresses like that. I can only assume it’s to be used in conjunction with the ‘French Made Easy’ book but that’s not clear anywhere, on the sales blurb or even in the book!

Lively and fun to learn with.
I teach French and this is a great publication. Well illustrated, lots of games in it. Good vocabulary. I recommend it for a home add-on to what's done in school. Also, for home learning only.
