A good food!
My dogs don’t have kidney disease but my two seniors have numbers that are just a little higher than normal so my vet suggested lower protein food. I found a lower protein dry food but couldn’t find a canned food that wasn’t prescription. I don’t like the ingredients in the prescription foods. I found this one and liked the ingredients MUCH better. I mix with the dry and the diligently like it, so I’m happy.

More gelatinous than a pate consistency
This wasn't really a pate type of food. It was molded in a gelatinous consistency. Trying to mush it down with a fork, I was left with clumps of food. 2 cans down and my pups have left the food alone and just let it dry up. Ended up going to the store to get a different brand, different type of pate consistency but for the same purpose and my pups devoured that one. Tried a 3rd time to see if they'll budge with this food but no luck. Wish the seller had an option to purchase fewer number of cans but now I have several cans that won't be consumed.

Won’t buy again.
Kinda pasty and dogs didn’t really like it. Took an act of God to get them to eat it.

Happy to find this
I am very happy to find affordable kidney friendly dog food, but my little fuzzy gourmets are not overly fond of it. They will eat it when hungry, tho.

First serving made a difference.
I have a 15 year old lab mix. He had his left CCL repaired by TPLO, in 2022. He just had the Figure 8 or Tightrope procedure done on his right CCL (March 8th, 2024), in North Carolina (cannot thank Creedmoor Road Animal Hospital enough). He has arthritis, which likely causes him pain and likely contributes to the fact that he has slowed down considerably. Had to have my veterinarian do blood work (which cost me as much as an original painting by a French impressionist), before the surgery. I was told that Tohbi's (Tohbi means "White" or "White Dog," in the Choctaw language) kidney function numbers were elevated, likely due to his advanced age. I have been cooking for Tohbi (chicken, rice, sweet potato, green beans, peas, and carrots) to help with the kidney function. However, I will be leaving to paddle the Buffalo River soon and need to leave my husband to take over the care of my fur babies, while I'm gone. I wanted to make sure that, if hubby runs out of the homemade stew while I'm gone, that he will have a healthy alternative to mix with Tohbi's kibble. I gave Tohbi his first serving yesterday and it was like I shaved five years off of his age. He was walking all around the house all day wagging his tail. I have not seen him like that for a very long time. So, this food definitely gets five stars. The fact that it is kidney friendly and does not need a veterinarian's approval is a bonus. Update: I'm not sure if the formulation has changed or if Tohbi has just decided that he is not crazy about this food, but he does not scarf it up like he used to. So, I'll probably only use this if I happen to run out of the home made chicken stew that I generally cook up for him.

Fantastic food and our dog loves it!
Perhaps one one of the best non-prescription options available for dogs who require a renal diet. Our little Parson Russell Terrier's health has vastly improved after several months on this diet. Also, she LOVES the taste. Thank you, Dave!
