Hamlyns Scottish Porridge with Bran
I’ve had Bariatric surgery and it has been quite an issue getting something that is both tasty and easy on my digestive system. I purchased the Hamlyns Scottish Porridge with bran and I’ve found my favorite breakfast. It’s healthy, it’s a great value, it’s easy to prepare and the cook time is great. I love the texture as well. My thanks to Hamlyns for a great product.

Unreal
So good! I wish I could afford to eat this wonderful porridge everyday. Not your ordinary oatmeal. No comparison to Quaker (glyphosate) oats. You need more water to cook but delicious!

A bowl a day… : )
This is the best tasting oatmeal I’ve eaten since I was about 7 or 8 years old—so, close to 60 years ago. The brand was the one with the smiling gentleman on the box; so I’d venture to say that back then, oatmeal was made the old fashioned way—and it wasn’t from Scotland! :) But thankfully I can purchase authentic oats through Amazon/Whole Foods, and other sources.

Great oatmeal
This Scottish oatmeal gives you the gumption and perseverance to face the day and take on every challenge. Whether that is a plumbing leak that destroys the plans you had made for the day, or an invasion of zombies which need that special touch from your oatmeal-strengthened hand to permanently exit their unique brand of fear on humanity in the area where you live, it gives your body all it needs to strike out into the day with vigor.

So creamy and cooks real fast
I easily would have given this product if it weren't for the poor packaging. Other customers had the same thing to say. The bag it came in was torn at the bottom and this was the case with both of the bags I ordered. How is this so? But the oatmeal is terrific. At the same time I bought several bags of the Bob's Red Mill steel cut oats. Probably the best oatmeal I have ever eaten with not much of a close second anywhere. Those oats are big and chewy and an amazing flavor. But the problem is that they need to cook for 20 minutes. When I get hungry I need to eat something Right Now. They are super easy to cook. Add the oats, add the water, bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Then you will have a revelation. Seriously. But, the nice thing about these oats is that they cook in 3-4 minutes. Much better. They are still steel cut oats but are cut into much finer pieces. There is even some powder in the mix. They do need a little extra attention- add the water, add the oats and bring to a boil and stir vigorously for a few minutes. Not that much work. Then I covered the pot, turned off the heat, left the pan on the burner and came back a few minutes later. Wow. Nice and creamy, still a little chewy, easier to eat than the Bob's oatmeal. And plenty of very delicious flavor, just not a intense as Bob's. I will probably buy both again, but I may end up eating these more often. Just a side not here: On some level these do not even taste like oats. My whole life I have eaten Quaker style rolled oats and I associate that taste with oatmeal. These almost taste like a different grain, the taste is so much different. Definitely a superior product

Perfect.
We visited Scotland two summers ago and fell in love with just about everything, including the oatmeal we ate every morning. I know it sounds weird, but there just isn't another oatmeal product quite like this one, even if other brands claim to be of Scottish style. I have been happy to find that I can consistently order Hamlyn's Scottish Oatmeal (the exact same brand and bag we used in Scotland) from this seller, as it is somehow always in stock and ships quickly. The cost is a bit high, but perhaps still reasonable, considering that it does not seem to be otherwise available on American grocery shelves. This style of oatmeal takes a little more care in preparation, in order to prevent lumps, but if done correctly, should be a mostly smooth mixture with perhaps a bit of mealiness in the mouth feel. Add a touch of brown sugar and cream for a delicious (and filling) breakfast.Update 05/14/2021: I don't know how this seller is still getting this product. It was briefly unavailable, but then quickly back in stock, and I was able to replenish our supply even during the pandemic. It's an indulgence, for sure, but I'm thankful to still be able to get it.

Best oatmeal ever
This traditional Scottish oatmeal, from Scotland is something I just can't find in local stores. The texture and taste are so much better than rolled or steel cut oats, and have helped me eat a healthier breakfast every morning! I enjoy this oatmeal so much that I have it on Subscribe and Save so I won't run out.
