Accurate enough :)
This BB rifle seems to be as accurate as claimed. :)I am no marksman, but I am able to get fairly consistent 3/8-inch groups at 15 feet, from a bench rest. That works out to about 7.5 MOA, or about 40/25 (40-feet-away / to hit a quarter).I bought this BB rifle so that I could get lots of easy, indoor, at-home practice to improve my accuracy. It looks like it's a winner for this job.The BB rifle has a real wood stock and forearm. Most of the rest of the 499 is made out of bent sheet metal, with a plastic cocking lever and trigger. The model 5899 peep-sight that came with my 499 is mostly plastic, but works great! It's adjustment knobs and small peep hole are just what is needed. The gun is quiet. It does make some noise, but the BBs hitting the target make more noise that the rifle. The length of "pull" (distance from shoulder-end of stock to the trigger) is a little short for a big man like me, at only 13 inches, but I plan to buy a recoil pad and it should work fine. This *is* a youth model after all!All in all, this was a great purchase. If you want a high-powered hunting airgun or a toy to bang around and put lots of rounds through quickly, look elsewhere. If you want a fairly accurate shooter for target practice then I highly recommend the Daisy 499.Edit:Since I wrote the above review, my standards for accuracy have gone way up. I have had access to some really high-end target airguns, and with them I can achieve groups many times smaller than those described by the numbers above. The groups I described above still represent the best I can do with the 499 (now called the "Champion") so I'm going to say that they represent the limits of the gun itself.Even so, I still like and recommend the 499. You would have to spend a lot more money to get more accuracy. Most of the more accurate airguns are louder, more powerful, and more of a hassle to use. The 499 is simple and quick, and provides lots of cheap, safe trigger time whenever you want it. It should also be a great trainer for kids.To get the claimed accuracy, be sure to use high quality BBs. "Avanti precision ground shot" or similar)One more important note: This is airgun shoots BBs, not pellets. BBs do bounce a lot, and if you miss your target trap they can come back at you or your friends at high speed. Everyone in the area should always be sure to wear safety glasses!

Really Nice BB Gun!
I have had several Daisy's since I was a kid 40 years ago. I have been shooting a Red Ryder for years, in a shooting gallery situation, and as a plinker. It is pretty darn accurate considering its price, and is fairly well made, but the 499 Champion is a cut above. It feels nice in the hands, has nice wood furniture, and comes with a very nice target style peep sight. It also cocks much easier, and smoother than the Red Ryder. It can be shot very accurately at 5-10 meters.BBs are inexpensive, and much rounder than they used to be. Best of all they are not made of lead, so no ( black and messy) lead powder residue on your fingers to worry about, as when shooting pellets (yuck!).It is very quiet, and low powered, so it can be shot without disturbing neighbors, if you use shoot carefully. This can put your eye out though, due to ricochets, so wear safety glasses while shooting.Mine came with a metal cocking lever...wasn't expecting that. The trigger is much lighter than I expected too. Big bonuses, thank you Daisy! Overall, I am loving this gun and totally pleased with it. This is a keeper.

Is not accurate
The reason I purchased this is for it's reputed accuracy. I have spent hours setting the scope to get it just right. I found there to a wild lack of accuracy at about 50 feet. Disappointed.

Best most accurate BB gun I ever shot
I have been shooting all kinds ofBB and pellet guns since 1954. This is by far the most accurate , well made and fun BB gun I have ever shot. Not for some one looking for the Red Rider experience of filling up the tube with 300BBs and cocking and rocking plinking at gTin cans or clay targets. It is a singe shot target gun made for 5 meter competitive target shooting. If you want to set up a 5 meter target range in your basement or any place else you can find the room this target gun with its single shot magnate lock and target shooting style for grip and Monte Carlo stock will provide much fun. Recommend you purchase the Match Grade steel BBS. I love to hear the sound of the SteelBB as it goes down the muzzle loading barrel on its way to the magnetic breach lock.Well worth the price and an excellent training tool for a young shooter to learn basic rifle handeling SAFTEY and target shooting skills

Great gun for practice.
Dead nuts accurate with great sights and a two-stage trigger. It shoots so good it gets boring so, so now I'm shooting point and shoot with no sights. A whole lot of fun. You're not going to kill anything with it outside of a mouse, but it's not made for that.
