Updated - Zero Sugar Jerky is WAAAY Awesome!
07/31/2019 UPDATE FOR ONLY THE ZERO SUGAR 7.3 OZ BAG!:I decided to give the Jack Link's Jerky one more try when it came up on Vine, and I'm so glad that I did! This Zero Sugar Beef Jerky is absolutely the best, best, BEST Jerky that my husband and I have ever had! It's nice and dry, it tastes like beef, and had a smoky, peppery flavor! It's totally fantastic and we now crave more! It is totally amazing jerky and makes up for all the issues we had with the other flavors! Hurry up Jack Link's and get the bigger bags on Amazon so I can buy more! We NEED More!!!NOTE: - See my older reviews below, that were actually only 1 or 2 stars, for some of the other flavors.I wish Jack Link's had separate reviews for each of their flavors so this would not be so confusing!06/08/2018:Not sure what is going on with this beef jerky! I have not eaten this brand in several years. I decided to try it again but it seems to have changed a lot! I got the Original flavor and the Black Peppered Flavor. Both have a very strange, soft, chewy, almost gelatinous, texture. Both are quite sweet and overly salty. The original is like salty, candied meat! Not a good beef flavor, just sweet with gross, soft, chewy texture. The peppered flavor is a bit better, mostly because it has the cracked pepper on it to give more flavor. Both styles are just too soft, sweet and salty for my taste! Guess I'll be looking for more of a real, old fashioned Beef Jerky!BIG UPDATE, my rating just lowered from 2 stars down to 1 star! 08/26/2018:I've bought a couple of other flavors since the last time I reviewed this product. This time I ordered the 1 lb Sweet & Hot Flavor with my Amazon Sub & Save, and now we get to join the Moldy Jerky Crowd! My Husband asked me to get him the Sweet & Hot, flavor in my next Sub & Save order, so I did. When he picked up the package at the Post Office, he was on his way to do more town errands and he wanted a quick a snack. He knew the Jerky was in this order, so he opened the box, found the 1 lb bag of the jerky, put it up in the front seat and started the truck back up to drive up to the next town. While driving, he decided to munch on the jerky as he drove. After the 1st bite, he gagged and realized something was drastically wrong and spit the mouthful out the window. Then he pulled off the side of the road to look in the bag. What he saw and smelled made him gag again and this time he opened the truck door just in time to vomit! He threw the bag of gross jerky in the back of the truck with the big load of trash he was taking to the County dump. After he went to the dump and did all his other errands, he called me to tell me the Jack Links Sweet & Hot Jerky had arrived with with a batch of free mold included. He sounded quite disgusted, so I didn't question him. After he got home, I asked him if he wanted me to try ordering another flavor. He got a very odd look on his face and then said he will probably never, ever eat any kind of jerky ever again.

> GREAT STUFF
> Tasty, relatively tender. Jack Links Original tastes like dried beef, the way it should. Moderately salty (of course), but not over-spiced or peppery.> The 16 ounce bag by Amazon subscription is less than $1/ounce---the best price I've found for good jerky> I cannot detect much difference between Jack Links and either Bridford or Pacific Gold, which are also good jerky Although there are probably differences from batch-to-batch, the current Pacific Gold I have on hand is more tender than Jack Links but does not taste as "beefy" as Jack Links.> Jack Links, and Bridgford claim to contain 10 calories/1oz from fat, Pacific Gold claims 5 calories/1oz---but Pacific Gold is usually much more expensive.> Jack Links, and Bridgford also contain preservatives, Pacific Gold claims to be preservative-free.QUALITY CONTROL?> Many retailers dump products on Amzn which are past due date, stored improperly, or otherwise are unsalable. I suspect that was the case with most of the reports of moldy jerky. Moral-of-the-story: use great caution purchasing from any 3rd party sellers. If you buy from a local store or DIRECTLY from Amzn you should have no problem. The big bags are also available at BJs. I've never gotten a bad bag.SUGGESTIONS> If even Jack Links, Bridgford, and/or Pacific Gold is too tuff for you, use scissors to cut the pieces into 1/2 to 1" squares, which are much easier to chew.> Alternatively, you can wrap a small handful of jerky in a wet paper towel, and microwave for 30 seconds, the result is much more tender.> Or you can place small squares of jerky on a piece of toast (or cracker, etc), cover with a slice of cheese and microwave for 30-60 seconds for a tasty warm "dried beef" and cheese sandwich.> Jerky goes well in many dishes, as either the main meat, or as a flavoring. As a flavoring in rice, beans, spaghetti sauce, casseroles, etc. I usually cut the jerky into 1/4--1/2" squares.> Click on “Stoney” just below the product title to see my other reviews.

The taste is TOP-NOTCH!
I first was introduced to this flavor of beef jerky around 2001. At first bite it was instant LOVE and I was hooked. For the longest time I would buy this at different grocery stores. That was until about 9 Months ago, the store that I usually bought this product at was sold out of it. And that is when the problem started. Sometimes they had the product and sometimes they did not. That led me on a hunt for a store that sold this jerky in the 5.85oz size. Most often it was a hit and miss at different stores for the elusive hunt of this sweet and savory jerky. I was exhausted driving all around my city and the city next to me looking for this jerky at the 5.58oz size. That is when I looked here at Amazon and sure enough Amazon had it. Due to my subscription service I signed up with Amazon and Jack Link's I have this delivered to my house once a month. Also since it is a subscription service that delivered every Month on the First I was given a DISCOUNT off the full price of the delivery. If I buy this 5.58oz package from the grocery store I pay about $10.00 plus tax for just one bag. Since I now have a subscription for auto delivery my cost now is about $8.00 per 5.58oz bag. If I had known that Amazon has this jerky and I get a discount due to my subscription, I would of ordered a subscription to this jerky 9 Months ago when I first was having problems finding this size in the store. My delivery was on time and the jerky was awesome. Thanks to Amazon and Jack Link's, I now look forward every month for my delivery of this Sweet and savory jerky.

Pieces themselves are quite small and very shredded
We were disappointed that the individual pieces were small and there were lots of shredded pieces.Next time we would get the larger thicker pieces or just make it ourselves in a food dehydrator. The FLAVOR is GREAT!
