Cyanuric Acid (CYA) Reducer for Pool and Spa, Removes CYA Through Filtration 1IB

This stuff works. Period. Run pump slowly, run around the clock, make sure no CYA is in the chlorine feeder, add a little liquid chlorine at far end from the skimmer, just enough to show some green with your test kit. One important thing. Liquid chlorine has a pH of about 18 so it will run the pH up if you don't pay attention. At least once a day check your pH and your alkalinity. Get alkalinity up to about 100 by adding sodium bicarbonate as needed. Toss the powder into the shallow end of pool where the CYA is located. If pH is getting close to 8.0 add about a cup and a half of muriatic acid at deep end but no sooner than 4 hours after the liquid chlorine was added. After a few hours check both. Check CYA once a week at store. Mine dropped from 143 down to 46 where it is now. Expect 10 to 15 ppm drop each week. Once you return to CYA tablets you shouldn't need any more liquid chlorine. But on long, hot days the feeder may not be adequate to break the 1 ppt chlorine level so a little back up chlorine may be needed. The pH of trichlor is about 3 which should balance the impact of chlorine and alkalinity. Make whatever adjustments you need to keep the pH in the 7.2 to 7.8 range. Never add CYA to your pool. 30 is plenty adequate but 50 is okay

This did not work at all. I have a 28,000 gallon pool with two skimmers, a variable speed pump, and an auto cover. I used one filter pouch in each skimmer for 5 weeks but it did not lower my CYA at all. The instructions are ridiculous. It says you need to keep your chlorine at 0-1ppm, and run your pump at 1500 RPM, which is about 30% slower than I would normally run. The problem with that is that if you already have high CYA and you try to maintain 0-1ppm of free chlorine and your only running your pump at 1500 RPM you will end up with cloudy water and/or an algae bloom, which is exactly what happened to me after following their instructions for only two days. I then had to shock my pool and wait a few days for the water to clear up. After that I turned my pump back up to 2100 RPM (45gpm) and maintained free chlorine at 2-5ppm. I was only using liquid chlorine, no pucks so I was not adding anymore CYA to my pool. Every time I added more chlorine I would removed the filter pouches and continued running my pump for 12-24 hours before putting the pouches back in. Other than that the pouches were in my skimmers and I was running my pump 24 hours per day. When I started using the filter pouches my CYA was around 110. After 5 weeks my CYA was measuring 100. I'm quite certain the only reason it dropped 10 points was due to the fact that I was also diluting my pool with rain water every time it rained by directing the hose of my cover pump back into the pool. I would not waste your time or money on this product, especially after reading all of the other reviews on Amazon and other sites. Reviews are very mixed with most stating this did not work. I will just resort to partial drain a refill to bring my CYA levels down.

I started out with 170ppm cya. This happens every year. After 3 days it dropped to 90ppm. 7 days we are at 50ppm. Follow the directions. First thing I did was back flush the pool filter. I dropped poolrx algicide in for a few days. Dropped in this beauty and ran the pump at 1500rpm 24 hours a day. Zero chlorine. It does take time. But it does work. I did let the leaves in the skimmer fill the sides of the basket so most of the water goes through the device. Ran a electric pool vacuum robot as well to stir the water up. I am extremely impressed with this product. It has saved me over 600$ and proved the pool store wrong.

The CYA in the pool was so high I can't tell how well it's working as I'm only using test strips to check it, but the chlorine and free chlorine levels are going up without adding any chlorine to the pool so I think it's gotta be working. I have had it in the pool skimmer basket for about 3 weeks now.

Didn't seem to effect my cya levels after two weeks, and have to run liquid chlorine while using it. End we d up just dumping 1/3 the water twice to reduce cya

My cya was 185 so I placed the device in my filter for one week. At the end of the week my cya was 170. Great, so I was looking at running without chlorine for another five weeks. Well after two weeks it was 169 and my pool turned pea soup green from lack of chlorine. At this rate it would be a year or two until I could use the pool This morning I removed about 10,000 gal. of water from my 22,000 gal pool. It will take a few days to fill it, and I am two weeks behind where I would have been, if I'd have dumped the water in the first place. I hope my horse's pasture likes green water.

I had no idea if this would work or not based on other reviews I've seen online. Decided to order it here (cheaper than at the big chain pool supply store) and give it a shot. In 10 days, my CYA levels have dropped over 30ppm. So it works for me. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that it works best with little to no chlorine in the pool. I kept in in the skimmer basket for the first 6 days, tested the water and so no improvement. Moved it to the leaf canister on my vacuum and continued using it for another 4 days and retested. Thats when i started to see results. So just follow the instructions to the letter and be patient

I have tried 4 other product who claimed to do the same thing. This product works. Not sure what chemically I’d happening in the water but it took a couple of days before it stayed working. Worked for me.
