DVD Writer
Great item, worked well burning DVD's for me but I couldn't get it to play my pre-recorded DVD's.Loaded VLC software and it works fine now.

Good device, ignore the enclosed CD
I bought this to watch videos on CD / DVD. I looks nice, light. It is made in Japan (rather than China) and the instructions are in English and Japanese (rather than Chinese). A sign of quality, also a sign of age. But, I expect all CD readers to be ancient. It worked with Win 10 straight away. I first ignored the attached CD and Windows sent me to their app store with Nero being at the top. I have used this in the past on Win XP. I chose this as it was "Free". Well, it is free for 5 days, after that yo need to pay. I watched part of one video to try it, and it didn't work again. I tried to enclosed CD. I have also used Cyberlink in the distant past. The Media Suite also had photo editing software, which might be useful. But looking at the instructions the software will watermark all your photos unless you pay for the premium edition, which was a bit unnerving. During installation it kept trying to access my Onedrive cloud storage (to watermark all my photos?) which I though was a bit dangerous, so I quit that. Then I looked at the answered questions on Amazon. It seems VLC works OK, and I have used this before on Win XP. I downloaded and installed VLC and I can watch rented CD and DVD movies.

Excellent device - shame about the instructions (edited)
I bought this DVD re-writer to replace another device I could not get to work on my PC. it came nicely packaged, with a CD - which I thought was the driver disk. it just works, and is a great device. I have a few minor negative points - see below for more info.there are very few instructions for this device, so I thought this was be on the CD with the drivers. this is wrong! What you actually get are a few Cyberlink products (including DVD player, CD Label Printer, Media Viewer and players etc). you also receive a "driver watcher" of some description. Now on to a couple of things to explain my rating:1: the CD does not seem to contain an actual CD driver of any description. So despite running the latest version of windows 10, my computer thinks the Windows default driver from 2006 is the best available.2: there is a piece of software which gets installed which is some type of "device driver watcher" and the idea is, as much as I can tell, if there is a more current driver version available you would have the choice of downloading and installing. My comment on this is: if the computer is happy with a 15 year old driver and the thing works, I'm not sure 2021 is going to provide anything more current or useful...3: As mentioned there is very little in the way of the instructions. during the install you get asked what you want to place on your computer, with no real idea of what the software actually is. Although not necessarily "Bloatware" - for me the DVD software is useful and very much a welcome addition, a lot of the other stuff I can't see a use for, although the backup software will be handy - I just need some blank DVDs to put stuff on to.4: the box suggests you can plug the drive into a TV Directly. I did this onto my LG TV via the USB port. the drive powers up etc, however the TV does not see the device. I tried this with a DVD and audio CD. it's a shame because this would have been a bonus for me and happy for holidays when travelling away etc.5: Noise. although the device is relatively quiet for the most part, it does get up some speed and can be quite noisy on occasion. In Summary:if you need a CD/DVD Rewriter then this is a great one to use, and certainly worth the extra few pounds over a "non-brand" device. If you need some media and backup software in a hurry (especially DVD player software), again this could be the device for you. I already have a lot of Cyberlink (and other media) stuff so some of this software is not likely to be used.it worked straight away.it comes in three colours (I went for white, black and grey were the other two available)there are no real instructions on what you are installing or why you need to. you could get away with not adding anything additional after plugging the drive in, if you have media players, good backup software etc.EDIT: removed comment about type of DVD-R and CD-R types you can use; it's quite clear in the description you can use all types (eg DVD +R and DVD -R). Also added reference to noise levels.

Works great, so easy.
I first bought one of these off another seller and it was awful, only loaded the disc 1 out 5 times - I was very dubious if these actually worked properly at all but as new PC didn't have an optical drive I needed one.I'm so glad I ordered this one, lovely white design to match my room and works perfectly every time.. It has a fairly short USB cable so bought a multi post USB with a long cable - now I can have my drive where I want it. The unit is incredibly lightweight so I have sitting on a rubber non slip mat to help give it stability, I also have it sitting raised up to give the drawer space to move in and out without catching the desk.I happily recommend this disc drive, a great piece of kit! I haven't tried playing a dvd on it, but have loaded over 40 data discs onto my new pc so far, plus numerous software discs, and have burned over 50 disc making hard copies of my data files without any problems. This follows a severe Hard drive crash and so I wanted to make hard copies of my work rather than always relying on a HD. Burning all those discs was really fast and easy.

Good quality
Plug and play with Windows 11. No stutter on playback, and really quiet. Haven’t written a disc with it yet, but I’ve been watching dvds and playing cds. Nice and light and it accepted an aftermarket USB A to Mini USB B cable. Good quality at a good price.

Light, good value, and it works!
Needed a portable DVD drive for a Macbook Air - this was well reviewed and, having used it, I'm happy. You probably need to handle it gently, as it's quite light. Nothing like the build quality or robustness of a superdrive, but nothing like the price either.
