Great shoes
I love these shoes so far. I am a casual runner; 3 or 4 runs per week of 3-7 miles. I have had ankle surgery and was using motion control shoes for the padding and stability. Although my ankle didn't hurt the mc shoes were giving me other issues. I decided to buy these new balance and have been very happy with the purchase. As other reviewers have noted the fit is snug when compared with other new balance made in the USA these are smaller and fit more like Asian running shoes. They are decent looking and seem well constructed. The materials are very lightweight so I can't testify in regards to their longevity. When I took them on the first run the light weight is the first thing I noticed. I barely noticed them. The grip on these is also fantastic. I run in Seattle where it can get slippery from the rain and leaves on the sidewalks. These shoes gave me superb control and confidence. They are fairly well cushioned for a light weight shoe, but I could definitely feel more of the road surface than with other shoes I have used. Overall I really like these shoes and will be buying another pair.

RECOMMENDATIONS FROM A MEDIUM DISTANCE RUNNER -- SIZING AND WEIGHT GUIDE --- WHAT TYPE OF ACTIVITY GUIDE
4 1/2 STARS -- MOST SHOE STRUCTURE FOR THE LIGHTEST WEIGHT I HAVE FOUND SO FAR. BUT THERE REALLY ARE SIZING ISSUES TO GET RIGHT FIRST.GENERAL COMMENTS: Ultra light for a non-bare foot style shoe. These are still my primary running shoe over other brands. That is a very personal preference oriented statement so it's impossible to say any one brand or shoe is absolute over another. I am not a marathoner, but I run 5-7 miles each go, several times a week (I mix in a little walking on rest days and use a different shoe then). I like a very light running shoe, but I don't go 100% minimalist. The heel drop is about right to still give good cushion for impact on joints. Not so high as to give unnatural can't to your form, not too low to loose shock support. If you are a taller or heavier person, these may be too light for you for any use. You need a sturdy shoe. As with many ultra-light shoes, the uppers are practically painted on to lower weight (they actually are in some areas), so you can't expect them to last as long as a regular shoe. This also limits their use mainly to running (see my activity notes below).SIZING: Unless New Balance makes a correction, don't ignore the sizing warnings on this page. Unfortunately you may even need to try more than one pair. I wear a size 10 in street shoes. I always go up half a size to 10 1/2 in running shoes to give my toes room. I had to go size 11 in this shoe to get a similar fit to the old M890v2 that these replaced for me. Once I got it right, I was happy again. I have normal to slightly narrow feet so I had no issues with a regular D width. If you have normal, but bordering on wide, you will maybe need to adjust. I recommend 1/2 to 1 full size larger than what you normally order. There is obviously no way for anyone to guarantee what you need.WEIGHT: These ran just over 9 oz in a size 11 (which is actually more like a 10 1/2 or large 10 in normal comparison). That is actually .5 oz heavier than the older version of 890v2 I had to replace. But then they have a little wear on the sole now. NB does make a significantly lighter shoe like the 1400, but it has a substantially slimmer profile and look. Padding or shock might also change, but that depends on the type of material. For me, this was an excellent balance between a light shoe and getting something that still protected my joints and looked aggressive too. As I said above, it's perhaps one of the lightest shoes you will find that still has fairly traditional structure and construction.ACTIVITIES OR USES: I only get half a year or so out of these shoes because of the light materials. If you use them in inclement weather or for harsher activities like cross fit, they are going to wear very quickly. Again, it's personal preference, but I don't suggest gym use and weight isn't a big issue if you are just walking for exercise. I use a different shoe with more durable uppers for those activities. I use an old worn pair for inclement weather. I am about 5' 7" 160lbs. I repeat what I said above. If you are taller or heavier and find you really need a sturdy shoe, these are probably not for you in any case.

Great Ride!
I am 210lbs and needed good support. These are lighter than I expected them to be. They are very light and the cushioning is very soft. They feel great and my first run in them was a blessing to my knees and hips. I have just started running again at 50 for the first time in about 7 years. The test is how well will they hold up over the next several months. I am a little concerned about the light weight as my size may break them down too quickly. They have the EVA midsole found on most running shoes with a stiffer rubber outsole. They fit like typical running shoes. I normally where an 11.5 in sneakers but running shoes I usually get a 12. I bought the 12 here and they fit well. I have a normal gait and medium width and my left foot is a touch longer than my right. When running if the shoes are too soft I can feel like I am going to roll my ankles but these keep my foot balanced as I roll through. Good shoes, let's see if they last.

Great shoe, great replacement for 890v2's.
I rotated 3 pairs of 890v2's for the last 2 years (I got the last two pair on clearance when the v3 was released.) I was finally down to 1 pair of v2's and needed to buy a new pair for the rotation. I didn't even read any reviews on here and ordered my usual size 13D. I took them out for a quick 3 mile run and really liked the feel and size. I feel they fit just like the v2's. They have the flexibility I've come to really like about my v2's and feel a little more soft. They just might feel this way since they are new and my v2's are battered old shoes. I plan on buying another pair of v4's in the next few months and buy another pair on clearance when the v5's are released. Great shoe. I live in Florida and the last month has been really hot. These shoes do a great job of breathing and don't get too soggy. I wear Balega Hidden Dry socks and love the combination with these shoes.About meAge 33 - Height 6'1 - Weight 175 - Shoe size 13D Pronation Neutral - Arch normal and flexible - Run about 1,000 miles a yearCurrent rotation Saucony Kinvara 4 for 5k and under runs, NB M890v2 and v4 for anything over 5k.

great shoe, ordered too large of a size
I ordered these shoes for my husband and while he loved the comfort and feel of the shoe, it was too big. Re ordered in a 10.5 4E and my husband is thrilled. The shoes are extremely comfortable and the width is perfect for him. Returning the shoes and re-ordering them in the new size was effortless thanks to amazon's excellent customer service coupled with their return policy.
