MT14
Excellent quality torch which is to be expected from LEDLenser and at this price point. Does everything I require function wise with high, medium and low beams plus the strobe capability. Would have been nice to have also had a flashing SOS function but I did know this wasn’t included when buying. One attraction of the torch though was the runtime on a full charge with a claimed 192hrs on low setting and 9hrs on high although I doubt you could leave the torch on the high setting for that long anyway because of overheating issues, either way that’s an impressive beam/battery longevity if accurate. I also like the beam focus on Ledlenser’s and at a claimed 320 meters (or 1050 feet in old money) I’ll look forward to testing that out. One thing that really did surprise me was the lack of a carry pouch in the retail box, having just a wrist band and charging cable inside. However I then noticed a small label on the outside of the box stating that a voucher is included inside to claim a pouch directly from Ledlenser. Closer inspection inside revealed a card with QR code to link you to the appropriate pouch on their web site, and after adding the pouch to the basket and entering an additional code printed on the card, sure enough the pouch came up as free and with free delivery. Seems to me it would be far easier and sensible just to include the pouch in the retail box in the first place but maybe there’s some method in their madness here! Possibly the only slight negative about the torch is the charging cable, being micro USB in the torch and USB A at the plug end, because these days I’d have expected USB C really if only for the torch connection. Happy with my purchase though all things considered.

Impressive performance from a handheld torch...
The Ledlenser MT14 is an extremely well made product with an impressive light output. Its programmable switch is simple and effective to use, as is the flood/spot beam function. I particularly like the compact size of this torch, which at 150mm long (6 inches) sits easily in both the hand and pocket. As well as using the MT14 as a general purpose torch I also use mine for 'light painting' during night photography sessions, for which it is the ideal tool. The only problem I have had to date is with the rubber cap which fits over the USB charging point. Whilst the rubber cap does exactly the job it is intended to do, (keep moisture out), it's all too easy to accidentally pull it off when removing the charging lead from the torch. Re-fitting this cap is a particularly fiddly job! This issue aside I would still recommend the MT14 torch with the caveat 'Be careful/gentle with that little rubber charging point cap'...

Brilliant for dog walking at night
Die hard torch forums don’t seem to rate these, but it is absolutely perfect for what I have bought it for. I walk the dog at night and this is brilliant in terms of brightness, battery life, size and build quality. Big plus that it is rechargeable as well. The description of the torch capabilities is a bit misleading as it does imply the torch will run at 1000 lumens for 9 hours. This isn’t the case due to heat. As the LED gets hot, it will regulate the brightness to control temperature. I’m not exactly sure what this looks like in real life yet because the 200 lumen setting on flood is absolutely ample for what I bought the torch for. It generates no heat so far on this setting. It feels really nice in the hand and the 7 year warranty seems like a plus. I see this as an investment on hopefully will have this torch for a very long time!

Quality materials but overpriced & poor beam pattern
Thought I would treat myself to the ‘best on the market’ torch as I have a ledlenser head torch for dog walking and that one is great. The MT14 body is clearly of good aluminium build quality and overall dimensions are not too big in the hand, nor too small. The switch feels robust and changes colour to tell you when it needs charged, which is very helpful. The battery came partially charged and I plugged it in for 4 hours until the light turned green indicating it was now fully charged. I like how easy it is to zoom in and out with one hand, instead of needing two hands to twist the end and hold the barrel. You can lock the level of zoom with a quick twist of the lens which good. When zooming, the light output is not consistent across the beam and has a dimmer circular section in the middle, which is very annoying (see attached photo). I have other significantly cheaper led torches which manage a consistent light output across the beam regardless of zoom position. I also feel it should zoom to more of a ‘pencil beam’ with less spread. The wrist strap feels too thin where it goes through the hole in the torch end cap. It may be OK but I will be replacing it for something more sturdy just to be on the safe side. The web page says it comes with a ‘Belt Pouch (voucher code)’. This means you get a voucher in the box and go to the ledlenser website to claim it. Don’t know if you are charged postage as they were sold out so I couldn’t get that far in the order process! I hope they come back into stock as I need this belt pouch. There are several modes you can adjust depending on how you want the torch to start up when first switched on, which may be useful to some. It also has ‘constant current/energy saving modes’ setting but I was unable to work out how to change between the two modes. In summary, it’s feels well made, feels robust, nice and bright on full power, not great for consistent light output across beam pattern, no belt pouch in box and overpriced compared to other torches.

BRIGHT AND A LONG LASTING BATTERY AND TOUGH
I have a number of torches but I find Ledlenser a superior make both in construction, brightness and battery life. i bought this one specifically for battery life and it works very well. Beam range is excellent but close up work on full brightness can be daunting for your eyeballs. If you are going to using the torch for dark enclosed spaces or small rooms you might find a 600 lumens brightness will be better. If you are using the torch mostly outdoors 1000 lumens is more than adequate. These torches are tough. I have three and they have all been dropped, bashed and dunked at various times in their lives. They have scratches, dints and dents but they keep on working. Full marks.
