Yamaha LS16 solid rosewood body with ARE Engleman spruce top is amazing!
This LS16 guitar is incredible. Absolutely amazing workmanship, flawless, and I’m picky. The LS size has fantastic tonal balance with beautiful sound and incredibly long sustain from E to . Wow so nice I didn’t want to travel with it and bought a FG850 mahogany as backup. Yamaha is totally rocking their customers with incredible instruments. I first heard and played full sized top of the line Yamaha in 1973. It was amazing, but these 2 guitars are far better. Both have the action set up higher than what a great luthier recommends, but I quickly realized the no buzz reasoning. Both incredible instruments that will be carefully taken care of and played frequently . Thank you Yamaha and The Music Zoo!

It rings like a crystal bell .. so clear and with 9 second sustain (per my wristwatch timing)
IU really like the Engleman Spruce. The guitar I received has a Curly Spruce top (like curly maple) and literally shimmers in the light. The strings were set a tad high .. so I lowered them with 1/2 turn of the truss rod and bingo! that got them right where I wanted the action to be. Can't beat the price with the 5% Prime member reward and the 10% Promo discount. Keep in mind the top is solid as are the Rosewood sides and bottom. The passive pickup is not even noticeable and I am glad of that because I do not play with amplification. Oh … I do not play well at all .. but with this guitar .. I look good … :-)

Love it!
Borrowed a beginner acoustic from a friend for several weeks before finally deciding on this beauty for myself. The quality and sound are drastically better. Was debating between a couple different models and ultimately went with the solid rosewood. So glad I pulled the trigger on this.

Shipping issues
Guitars should be handled as fragile. Even though it was written that way on the box it was still handled rougher than should have been. It is a good guitar only because it was in a padded case was the reason it was not damaged. I like the guitar just needs better handling.

Good guitar, arrived scratched/blemished
This is a solid wood guitar, but made in China rather than Japan, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the build (nothing wrong with it, straight neck, low action, no sharp edges on the frets, etc), and the tone of the guitar. Good sound, nice sustain, etc. I was a little disappointed that there was a couple of spots with some small scratches/blemishes. They aren’t terrible, but they ARE there. These appear to be from handling before I received the guitar, and not from manufacture. Overall, it’s a good guitar for a fair price. Maybe not as good as a high end Taylor/Martin/Yairi, but still pretty darn good.,

Great guitar - Surprisedly good piezo sound
Pros: Exceptional playability for fingerpicking. Even with .012 action is easy and comfortable. Nice sound, focused and clear. Piezo works very well with Boss VE-8 Cons: 1st guitar I got had visible glue around bridge 2nd guitar much better but not perfect It should have the 2nd strap button Cheap plastic capo and saddle It is a beautiful instrument that play as good as some Martin I have tried, even better if you consider volume and clarity. The neck is very well designed and the strings are well spaced (especially for big fingers guy like me!) The piezo, connected through a good preamp (I use the Boss VE-8), sounds very convincing. The missing 2nd strap button and the use of cheap plastic for capo and saddle are minor cons. Yamaha Customer service was a bit disappointing: although I sent picture of the excess of glue all around the bridge (like a beginner work), I got an answer that they consider this not a defect! It's a $1,000 guitar, come on! Amazon Customer Service: fantastic! Guitar replaced and happy customer...

Yamaha LL16
I love this guitar. The one I received sounds excellent. Would love for it to have a bone nut and saddle but hey it plays very well.

When I got this I did an A/B comparison with my other guitar, a Yamaha A5R ARE. The A5R is a fine sounding instrument, and every musician I know who has tried it ranks it very high - much higher than its price would lead one to believe. The LS16 did not sound as good. The difference was quite noticeable, but unlike the LS16, the A5R came with Graph Tech nut and saddle. I swapped out the urea nut, saddle and plastic pins on the LS16 and replaced them with a bone nut (Graph Tech does not make a pre-slotted nut that fits) and with Graph Tech saddle and pins. What a transformation! The LS16 is a smaller body than the A5R, but with the upgraded parts it sounds almost as good. Full, rich, melodic, and with amazing sustain. Now, musicians who come to visit me try both guitars and have to switch back and forth a few times to say which one they like better. Get an LS16 and replace the plastic parts with bone or Graph Tech, and I'm sure you'll find it to be a very good sounding guitar for the price. The LS16 comes with a soft case. It may not be as protective as a hard case, but I'm not so sure about that. I much prefer the soft case for everyday use. But I would hesitate about shipping the guitar in the soft case.
