Bookends of this classic elegant design should be made of unsprung metal, at least 2mm thick on the upright, and 3mm on the base, and the top edge of the upright angled slightly over the base than its bottom join. That way the bookend remains stable when books are removed, even if other books in the row then fall against it.These are a useful size. But they are sprung metal, less than 1mm thick on both upright and base, and the top edge of one upright leant away from base by 7mm. They may hold in place a row of small paperbacks rarely removed, but are too flimsy for anything heavier.Obliged by Amazon's system to give it a star rating. If I had a choice, I would not.
