It draws in rainbow colors. Depending where you are writing on the screen, determines what color it is. Just like in the picture.

No, it does not have a backlight.

Battery compartment is it screwed closed? Or does battery fall out

Battery snaps in on the bottom of the board. It is very hard to open, and it does not screw tight.
