Smart idea — simple and brilliant!

Tried this on a fake 2024 Silver Eagle I had and it works for a quick spot check. The diameter of the fake was 1.572 inches and width was over specs and would not go through the slot. Tried it with real Silver Eagle and slides through fine. Great little pocket tool to check dimension, no replacement to a good micrometer.

I don't have a "bad example" that I could use, but all those I knew were valid fit through the slot. I will point out that it seems like a slightly larger coin (especially circumference) coin would have fit as well. It also seems to sometimes catch at the top/bottom of the coin (where I have to rotate the coin through, instead of push it through) but it would eventually let these pass too. In general, not bad .... but I don't have much confidence in it. I find these slot-like testers (which test the physical dimensions) work better on circulated type coins... and Silver Eagles are not likely to be circulated. I will point out that this seems to be a 3D printed item, so it might be that I got one that was slightly printed wrong.

The size of an American Eagle is 40.6 mm, the width of this item is 41.3. Not within spec of the coin. I am returning it.
