Absolutely loved it! After years of random page reads by my little sister, I ended up buying her a copy. Read what you love. Review: Great does story from Mary Downing Hahn - The old Willis place is a great ghost story. This was actually the first Mary Downing Hahn book that I ever bought. The story is of a boy and girl, who are brother and sister, who live in this mansion that’s been abandoned, and then another family comes to be caretakers at the place. The daughter of the family who are caretakers makes friends with the boy and girl, and does some investigating to find out why this house is haunted. She finds out why and I actually don’t remember if she likes what she finds out. If you get this book you’ll have to read it and find out for yourself. This would be a good story to read around Halloween time.

I Loved This Book!!!
I first saw this book along with All the Lovely Bad Ones at a Borders bookstore years ago. They were on a shelf with favorite picks by the staff. So, I thought I'd buy both and give them a try. I did not regret that choice and have gone with other titles. I really like Ms. Hahn's stories and am introducing my son to her stories as well.

Told from the perspective of the restless spirit, this book is a mildly suspenseful, slightly frightening tale which is well paced - it may capture your attention so that you read it right through in a single sitting. "The Old Willis Place" is a good read for a lazy afternoon and may have appeal for audiences ranging from 9 and up. The characters and dialogue are believable. The atmosphere of horror and sadness is not overdone. Unlike many other books in this genre, "The Old Willis Place" doesn't have pages of repetitive, irrelevant or unneccessary descriptions (yahoo!) The only drawback to this book was that it was somewhat predictable and the ending didn't pack the punch necessary to make it a truly excellent ghost story.
