A solid shoe for my tired and damaged dogs.
After a rainshower of blood clots almost cost me my legs (that's a whole other story), my feet are now damaged and I deal constantly with nerve pain and drop foot. One of life's unexpected gifts at the age of 40, I can assure you. This has put me on a quest to find the best shoe to bring comfort and relief to my feet. After trying Hoka and Asics, and not being satisfied, a rep from REI recommend Altras. I had never heard of them, but was desperate for help. He recommended the Olympus model for cushion, so I went with it. Finally, my aching feet were able to spread out and experience some true comfort. The cushion is just right for what I need and the wide toe-box was perfect for what I needed. The overall width of the shoe is great for me, since I'm now dealing with some balance issues. The build of the shoes have been quality for me and I have literally taken them across the world. They are great for everyday life and they provide me with the comfort I need to keep going. After all of this happened to me, I was determined I would not spend the rest of my life sitting in a recliner. These shoes allow me to go as hard as I want for as long as I need. I am currently on my second pair of Altra Olympus 5's and I'm looking at a third. I'm grateful that Altra has made a shoe that is perfect for feet to spread out, be comfortable, and be active.

One of two top brands for long distancee hiking
I just completed my through hike of the AT and while I didn't wear Altras, I did notice they were one of the most popular brands. I purchased this pair when I got home and just finished a five mile hike. Compared to my HOKA Speed Goat Fives, the Altras have a nice toe box. Cushion was good but size wise my pair were a bit small. I normally wear 10.5 but on my walk my toes were pushed hard against the toe box front. I should have gone with a half or full size larger. Not a big fan of the lace material either - seems cheap and brittle. Overall, were I to purchase more Altras, I would go a full size bigger.

Great shoe good support no insole needed
Have been wearing Altra shoes about a year and a half. Walk/hike in a canyon 10 miles a day with 2,000 plus feet of total elevation gain. These shoes are great and I don’t need an expensive insole like I did with the Lone Peak 6. The wide toe box is good no need for an extra wide shoe to make toes comfortable like when wearing Asics. There is a lot of cushion in the sole for long hikes and the soles last longer for my hiking and daily wear. Shoe strings can be a bit too short if all holes are used- try litlaces or other comparable slightly longer and more flexible laces. If soles peel after lots of wear use thin loctite superglue as recommended by fleet feet salesperson (he said it happens with all brands)Normally wear size 13 and 13 fits me well in this shoe.

Be careful who you purchase from. Altra Warranty VOIDED
The shoes are pretty much great all around. My favorite shoes. My left shoe developed an internal forefoot squeak that I couldn't get rid of, so I filed a warranty claim. The claim was denied only because I purchased on Amazon via a reseller named Shoppelina. I'm sure this applies to any reseller on here. Be careful who you purchase from.

Wide toe box and very cushioning.
This is like the 4th pair of Altras that I have purchased. Extremely pleased with all pairs.

Great shoe
Just got these and I love them. For some reason they appear to compliment a smaller foot better. I’m a size 8 not a wide foot or anything and these are very comfortable. I liked them so much i already ordered them in blue.

Not bad but not as good as older models
I like the shoe. Nice features, like vibram sole. Nice rock barrier in sole too. However, its not nearly as plush as like the older olympus 3.5. Also, its not nearly as cushioned as previous models. In fact, my new Altra TIMP 4 shoes are softer or more cushioning. Maybe road shoes are more plush these days than trail shoes? Not sure. I tried on HOKA shoes, even bought a pair, and they too don't seem nearly as plush as older models. I miss the plush, max cushioned, walking on air ... feeling of older Hoka and Altra shoes. But these olumpus shoes are a definite 4 star shoe. Oh yeah, I already ordered new shoelaces for the shoe. I don't need the flat light laces that came with the shoe. But shoe laces are a different topic.

Same fit as the Lone Peaks
I'm a big, heavy guy coming from a pair of Lone Peaks (which I really liked). My local trails are really rocky & rooty, so I love the extra thickness in the sole of these. The tongue seems really thin but, wearing them, I don't actually notice any difference. They feel great, they've not needed breaking in at all and I've not had any stability issues from the increased stack height. My only complaint is the laces, which need to be a good 20cm/8" longer - they're just barely long enough to do a double knot IF I don't use the last set of eyelets.

Perfect trial shoe for what I need.
Already own Altra Lone Peak 6 which I found a little lightweight. The Olympus 5 is much better for my needs. Use for hiking and not running. Has a vibram sole which some dont like but I find ideal. On another buyers advice I added a superfeet insole for added arch support and I have found the perfect shoe for me. Worked out a little expensive but if it gets you what you need!! Comfortable straight from the box. Not waterproof but dry quickly. Only remains to see how they last under prolonged use.Beware ..Once you get used to a wide toe box shoe like the Altra range you cant go back to standard fitting shoes. I have a pair of Hoka which I cant use anymore.
