Q: What is the length of this sock from the heel to the top of the sock in size us men 6.5-8.5? i want to know how far they'll come up my ankle/calf.

They will come right to the bottom of the calf/ top of the ankle, just about 6-7 inches from the base of the heal. I am a size 10 mens

I just looked at this specific listing. The size 8-10 along with all other sizes are specifically listed twice with a reference to this size for women and men. If you normally wear a size 8.5 shoe and you're a man, then make a choice based on your gender. Women sizes in any given category are much smaller than the corresponding men's size. If you purchase footwear outside the US, please google a size conversion table to find the equivalent size of 8-10 in your sizing system - UK, European, Chinese, etc. Importantly for you, these socks were most often ranked by customers as "true to size." They feel more like nylon than cotton, but I can’t say exactly.

Q: How thin are they? how do they compare to the defeet wooleaters? if they are thicker than dress socks don't bother answering.

Have not worn Defeet Wooleaters, but these are not noticeably thick. They are thinner than some other cycling socks I own. I would not characterize these as heavy winter socks.
