My wife and I use these around our rural property to stay in contact with one another when working outside. They work well within about 1/8 of a mile. Have not tried to work with them further than this, but with a clear unobstructed path I wouldn't be surprised they work further. The sound quality is good and the battery life is good.

I love these. They are perfect for walking my property with while keeping in touch with my family inside. The sound quality is impressive and they feel sturdy. It's very easy to assemble. The voice activated recharge reminder is NICE bc you don't have to worry about recharging until you hear, "please charge." They stay active for almost 3 whole days when left on so I'd imagine they'd last longer if you turned them off periodically. They take about 4-5 hours to charge and come with a nifty ear piece. At $20 this is a steal. My only minor complaint is that I have yet to be able to find replacement batteries without having to buy a whole other set, but that's just a preference so I can switch batteries and always have one charged up. No biggie though. Def happy with my purchase. Thanks!
