It does its job and then some!!
I have been canning for more than forty years and have enjoyed all of the processes involved - right - it’s where science meets art meets the physical endurance of any athlete! Ha! After aging and injuries took hold canning was such a struggle - the lifting - the steamed up kitchen making it harder to see and just acclimate to the extra heat. Lifting that old enamel canner - just near to impossible now. Then, I stumbled across this Ball canner!I have to say this canner is the bomb!! I used it for the first time this week and went to town on several recipes! The timer is perfect, the display panel is good. Even with eyesight that is not as good as it used to be - I can see the display well. The instruction book is your friend with this - and very well written! If I could make one suggestion to Ball it would be to put the instructions on one “laminated card” so that when you refer to it again and again while canning - you’re not getting it wet!! The canner worked exactly as expected and did all the things the booklet said it would. One thing I missed but was clearly in the booklet: when the canner is processing a batch - it sometimes sounds like it’s turning off or slowing down (you’ll notice it’s not bubbling the same). . Initially I thought it was broken- nope! The canner knows its temperature and to stay at temperature it slows itself down (this is in the booklet). Another awesome quality about this canner is that the kitchen doesn’t become a sauna! It’s such a good solid piece of equipment. The spigot is fantastic! Zero lifting!! ZERO lifting! I’ve not had it long enough to speak about rust resistance however I did put the vinegar in the water as suggested bball in the booklet. To test the canner out I did several different recipes and they all set just fine and processed very well. No issues in a single batch out of seven plus recipes. I wasn’t sure when I was purchasing this product if it would indeed be worth the money - hands down the best thing I’ve bought in years!!! It truly is a game changer. The best part: I had thought my canning days were gone - another favorite thing I’d have to let go of because of how much I could no longer do physically. This technology and brilliant design of this canner has made it all possible again! So thank you to the design folks at Ball who had the vision to make a product that would respond to the needs of their consumers. Great job. To anyone reading these reviews - I’ve learned a lot from the reviews here - the take away from my review to you - is: don’t wait! You’ve earned this canner ;) and if you’re a canner you know what I mean. Just get it lol !!

Where Have You Been All My Life???
Wow, and Wow again. I have been canning for almost my whole life. I grew up on a farm and my grandmother and my mother and aunts all taught me how to can. It was what we did. You put by the things you grew and harvested. Whether it was water bath canning or pressure canning, we canned everything we could to make sure we had food throughout the year. Now onto this new canner. OK, it takes a little time to read the directions, but once you do a batch, you will get into the swing of it, and it makes it pretty easy to do a few more things at one time. I had a small amount of pear honey left to make a nice run, and thought this would be the perfect time to try it out. It worked beautifully and I could not be more pleased. A little pricey I admit, but this thing is not just a canner. You can steam in it, you can boil pasta in it, it holds a lot and with that spigot, it makes it easier to drain the water than having to let it completely cool and then carry it over to the stove, something that is not getting any easier as I get older. Now the big question will be, where do I store it.

Best Canning Purchase
I only make jams, and I have a disability, so man handling a giant canner full of water is not great. I also have put off replacing my old stove because I can, and didn't want to use a full canner on a glass top.I bought this when it went on sale, and have used it twice. I checked a trial run, and it keeps perfect temp. The automated features were super nice. It prepped my jars, and kept them at temp.I made marmalade once and didn't take into account how long it takes to prep the orange peels, but the canner kept those jars at the right temp the whole time. It did beep occasionally to let me know it was up to temp, but that wasn't a problem for me.After filling jars I just set the controls. I had to read the manual becuase I kept accidentally hitting the wrong thing, but that's user error. Both times, it just worked perfectly. It timed it, and went through the process with out any issues.I have not tried the steaming option, but I was thinking of making either a big batch of tamales, or bao buns, to test that. My trial run on the steam side worked well enough, so that means I now have the biggest steamer ever.Break down is so much easier. I can just drain it out of the spout to get the water out. It sits perfectly fine on the counter by the sink. This product also means I can replace my old stove with a glass top one now. I was waiting because canning jam on a glass top made me nervous. Now I don't have to use the stove top for it.The one thing I was concerned about is the spout. It sticks out and I didn't want an accident in the cupboard to happen. I decided to store it in its box, so problem solved.
