I have a very silty 'natural' pond in which the intake slots of my Fishmate 400 pump were frequently getting blocked with debris. These mesh bags are advertised for filter medium but I saw a couple of reviews on Amazon by people who used them for pumps.I bought 2 bags, the idea being that I could lift the pump out, clean it and put a fresh bag on.In practice it has been quite effective. The bag traps most of the muck and while there is still silt on the pump it is very fine and it is much easier to clean than before. The dirty bag goes in a bucket of water, to be cleaned at my leisure.A very minor oddity is that the drawcords are several inches longer than necessary, but a pair of scissors and a new knot sorts that in a minute.

The pump bag was bought for use with my new pond pump, not yet installed.

First of all the mesh bag is way too big for what I needed it for. It could fit 3 normal size pumps into it but as long as it's fitted correctly and the draw string tied up out of the way is OK for my purpose of saving the newts in my pond being sucked into the filter and not being able to free themselves. Every time I clear and clean the existing filter the water flow rate into the waterfall seems to double so small baby fish and newts are found dead the next time it's cleaned. Hopefully this extra filter around the pump solves the problem. I will find out next month.

The bag is great. I use it attached to the 4inch inlet to the first bay of my filter to catch debris before it enters the filter system.It needs cleaning every 2 days so is a bit of a chore but the filter, in general, is better without the debris caught by the bag!I attach it with a push on 4-inch connector and the net is held on by a suitably sizes jubilee clamp.Needs to be removed before holidays as daughter doesn't like playing with the filter! so a bit of a filter flushing required when I come back

If the size of the holes isn’t crucial then the product is fine. However, the advertised 3mm holes are in fact 4mm+, which was too large for my intended use.NB. If you see a picture of Light Blocking Glasses against this review, it’s wrong.Review is for Pond Mesh Bag.

Pond pump regular blocks up this time of year due to lots of organic flotsam. Due to large size bag slips over pump & draw string closes it. Job done, it takes only 5 mins to replace ( instead of the previous 1 hour strip down) with spare bag leaving you to hose clean the blocked one at you leisure. Its also black so doesn't show in pond.

I bought this bag to put my pond pump in and to fill with Barley straw. My pond is now perfectly clear after 2 days and the pump has not clagged up with algae or muck.
