Great and ready to use out of the box.

When needed for snapping a straight line on a roof or floor you can't beat the price for this. A professional using it regularly should buy the sturdy metal version since it will see a lot of use/abuse over the years... but a homeowner using it only a couple times will find this one is a very good deal.

I would buy this product again. I recommend it.

A must have when doing a subfloor tile and many construction projects

Be careful when selecting a style / option. I chose the cheapest, knowing it wouldn't include a refill bottle. But the tool itself also doesn't come with an initial fill of chalk powder (maybe it becomes too messy to ship this way?). Whatever the reason, be aware of that when buying.

Good for homeowner quality.

These chalk boxes (chalk lines) work as advertised. I am a contractor and have used IRWIN chalk boxes for many years. While you can pay more for fancier chalk boxes, these will get the job done. They do not fail at a greater frequency than any other brand. Keep them dry and the chalk will not clog. Eventually, all chalk boxes fail and end up in the trash, so don't waste your money on a more expensive model.I purchased some more of these IRWIN chalk boxes recently and wanted to color code them to denote what color chalk was inside (Red and Black). I decided to give them a custom paint job to honor musician Eddie Van Halen. Now they stand out on the job site from everyone else's and are easy to see from a distance.

I prefer the older metal sturdy units, but this was inexpensive and works fine.

I have personally used this chalk line for years, and have never had an issue with it. Case is solid, takes a bit extra to reel in but never jams.

I just needed a straight line for planting trees. I guess this has a few uses.
