The Flower Farmer's Year: How to grow cut flowers for pleasure and profit : Georgie Newbery: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: A must for fledgling flower farmers or just cut flower enthusiasts! - I bought this book for a friend who is hoping to start her own business as a flower farmer. I had a good look through it first and was delighted with my purchase as it seemed very informative, easy to rad and beautiful photography. My friend stayed up late on her birthday she was so pleased with it. She says it covers so many topics she hadn't even thought of such as using social media to promote your business, how to source from other growers when you need to such as a wedding and how to package your flowers safely. As well as all the business advice it is packed full on which flowers to grow, the best soil conditions, what to do when you have a glut and creating beautiful arrangements all in an easy to read format. Highly recommended! Review: Fantastic book. - I really loved reading this book and have it available for reading whenever the need arises. The book and the experiences it is based on are set in the UK so no interpretation of units, climate or market preferences needed. The writing style is very personable - more like getting a friendly lecture from a tutor than looking at black and white text. The practical side of the book covers everything I can think of (in retrospect), that would be needed to making your own fertilizer and compost, raised beds, polytunnels, weed/pest protection and so on. Georgie makes the case for local production vs international imports, the business aspects and how to market / sell your produce. Really excellent and recommended.

Better than I ever imagined
Full of details, the author is very generous with her advice and the knowledge gained through running her own business. I've come back to this time and time again and now want (need!) her other book. This is a fabulous source of information for anyone interested either in growing flowers for their home or as a business. Plenty of facts on how to get started and avoid making the same mistakes she did. A book full of passion and sound advice to help you avoid making costly mistakes.

I found this book the most informative book I have every read. I like t refer to books every so often, but now I have this book I seem to spend more time reading than ever before. It has so much valuable info and tips, a very enjoyable read. I have asked my daughter to buy the next book by Georgie Newbery for Christmas for me that will be out shortly. I was very hesitant about buying this book and must admit to repeatedly putting it in, and then taking it out of my shopping cart. I am a professional gardener/nursery owner and am making the transition into the cut flower business. I was leery that this would be another 'fluff' book with beautiful pictures but no real substance. I was so pleasantly surprised to find just the opposite to be true! Yes, there are gorgeous pictures but there is also a trove of knowledge, tips and hints that will be so valuable to anyone in this business. The author explains it all in a no-nonsense way that had me jotting notes while laughing at her anecdotes. I have found that true gardeners are always willing (it's a compulsion with us) to share our love of flowers including our knowledge and Georgie Newbery does this in spades!

Thank you, Georgie Newbery, for sharing your experience on how to set up a cut flower business! Thank you. I just re-read this book for the second time in a few months and am terribly grateful for all the details shared and experiences shared. The only suggestion I would have is to include more pictures of the flowers/ varieties mentioned.
