This book brings the lives of 5 Old Testament women to life. It’s so well researched that it gives context and better understanding to these books of the bible, whilst remaining true to the original writings. I just loved reading it.

Easy book to read Ideal gift for a friend

This series has come to be one of my favorite of her books. I have never seen or thought about the angle of which she brought out the characters of the 5 women in the lineage of grace. Grateful for these books, its a reminder that God uses people that are not the most popular or that have been disregarded in society for his own glory. Greatly encouraged. I highly recommend that every reader should read this series.

Absolutely excellent book!!! I couldn't put it down. I'm a Christian & read/study the Bible regularly but I'm so busy applying it to my life I often forget about the characters, especially the women. We read about things like when Jesus was crucified & forget about how that impacted on Mary, she had to watch her son died in such a horrific way & on top of that, she felt abandoned & totally betrayed by God & the promise he made to her 30 years previously. Or what about Tamar, how long she was mistreated by 2 husbands who died then to be sent back home to her parents who also mistreated her for years but she still longed to carry on the house of Judah so much so her desperation ended up in trickery in order that God's will be done. Again, I've heard the story but never really work through how these women must have actually felt & lived for years with such trials & struggles with God. Francine Rivers captures their stories beautifully!! Highly recommend. My only one criticism (hence why it's 4 stars) is the story of Mary. At times I feel it wasn't really backed up Biblically, particularly when Jesus was between 12-30 years old & Joseph's death. I feel making up these years can be quite dangerous but equally I understand it's not the Bible, rather it's a fictional book & should be treated as such.

Even though you may know the bible stories these are based on it give such wonderful insight into the lives of the people of the time. . Also has leading questions at the end of each chapter for further study. A thoroughly enjoyable book which really makes you appreciate the bible even more. A great companion.

The book makes the Bible accounts come alive beautifully.

This is such a fantastic book - if you haven't alredy read any francine rivers, you should! This is a wonderful mix of stories and studies. I'm really enjoying the stories - mini novels, very well written and easy to read, works of fiction from the facts we find in the Bible and I'm working through the studies with a friend. Perfect for a womens study group or a 121 setting, or even just with a cup of tea on the sofa for a change! Highly reccommended!

A beautiful story. I’ve read it once, and I will need to read it again sometime. I will leave it on the bookshelf in hopes that my girls will read it too.

Cool to read those Bible books from a different perspective! Makes you think about the motivation of those strong women and their unquestionable faith.

My favorite author has done it again!! Love this book series that is so brilliant, describing stories from the bible in a relatable way with historical accuracy. Once you start reading, it is hard to put down.

All the five stories were amazing. The stories describe how we fall short of grace and how much more God extends his grace to fill the gap when we repent and cry to God.
