I would try giving the puppy a bath with Dawn liquid soap and talk to you local vet about giving this to your new puppy

I live in the Tampa Bay area in Florida and used this on my chihuahua for over 3 years and it has been very effective. I do not give him heart worm treatment since it repels and kills mosquitos as well and every time the vet has done his heart worm test, it has been negative.
