Superb for the price, though quite a few niggles
This is a little gem, although imperfect. But there is no question: this is great value for money. The 50x-500x seems a little questionable - you can have something like either level of magnification, but nothing in between. Basically, the optics have two focal points, each offering a different level of magnification. It's not a zoom lens. The illumination is great - 8 LEDs around the lens. There's a thumb-wheel on the cable that allows you to adjust the illumination level, and the camera does some sort of automatic gain, so the image is generally good no matter what you set the level at. You can turn the illumination off, as well. You notice as the illumination goes down, so does the frame rate - this works OK, and results in good images. The focus wheel on the side is a bit sloppy, and even with the scope held steady, the image shifts as you turn the wheel. But it's not that bad at the lower magnification. At least the image doesn't rotate much. At the higher magnification, the depth of field is pretty shallow, but that's to be expected. The image quality you get from this is great. I used this with the 'cheese' application on Ubuntu, but I couldn't get more than 640x480 resolution (0.3 MP). Still, no grumbles - each pixel is clear. Not much noise. The stand is OK, though not particularly smooth to adjust. And there's a microscope ruler included, too, with a 0.1mm grid and other goodies on it.Overall, not at all disappointed. It really does the job.A couple of photos showing captures of some fabric are attached: one at each of the two magnifications, without moving the microscope. The "x50" image field is about 4.5mm x 3.2 mm, the "x500" one's is about 1200µm x 900µm.

great value for money
Surprisingly good for users with realistic expectations. This is so cheap that the level it performs at is very good, of course as you increase the magnification the depth of focus becomes very small and adjusting the stand is not easy so its easy to lose the image but when you bear in mind that rack and pinion focussing and a mechanical stage on a microscope take the cost up to £1000's at this price point this can provide useful information and a lot of fun. Its key advantage is portability, plug it into a laptop and you are good to go almost anywhere

Very poor quality digital microscope
The Chinese supplier was great and responded quickly, including a quick refund. The camera looks great and I have seen it on Amazon form £26 which I paid to £300 or so.The quality is terrible compared to even a cheap optical microscope or camera macro. The software feels very cheap and nasty. It is terrible to use. The zoom funtions (software only) can go outside the viewable area of your screen.I could go on, but please take my advice and simply don't waste your time and money on this product.Personally I have chosen to buy an SLR camera with some extension rings, a lot more expensive but far more usable images.

The software not good
It work. It is just that I could not snap a picture using the provides software. Only can make the picture live on computer screen

Impressive!
I was very impressed by this device. It is really excellent quality, and a useful thing to have around. Easy to use, and I've found it fascinating to view a variety of commonplace items - transformed from mundane to very interesting. Recommended.
