Product Description A hotshot stock car racer finds more than fame in the south - love for a neurosurgeon who has a marked disdain for racing. .co.uk Review This loud and fast 1988 effort by director Tony Scott (Beverly Hills Cop 2, Top Gun) has much more style than substance but it does effectively depict the edgy and dangerous world of stock car racing. Tom Cruise plays yet another cocky loner trying to find success and happiness, this time as stock car racer Cole Trickle, a driver with raw talent but no discipline who is desperate for guidance and sponsorship. They both materialise in the visage of world-weary Robert Duvall, who despite his better instincts sees a second chance at victory in the young driver. Featuring supporting roles by Nicole Kidman, as Cruise's physician and love interest, and Randy Quaid, as a bombastic sponsor, and with a screenplay by Robert Towne (Chinatown), Days of Thunder is a slickly packaged entertainment best suited for die-hard Tom Cruise fans and those who want an intense visual experience. --Robert Lane

"I'm dropping the hammer Harry."
If you love the film then this is as good as it gets. They only thing missing is an Atmos sound track but that's only minor. The racing looks fantastic in 4K and all the quotes are there for you to reel off. "It under Rowdy's time."

Spectacular noisy fun - just leave your brain at home first.
As many have said, this film is simply Top Gun on the track. There's some good footage of real-life NASCAR races and characters and Robert Duvall makes a good job of his role as the old and wise Crew Chief tasked with taming Tom Cruise's wilder moments. The plot is laughable to be honest. How can someone like the Cole Trickle character win championships without understanding even the basics of car setup and oval racing? I know that here in the UK we all think that NASCAR is basically a case of keeping your boot down and turning left, and to an extent that's true, but there is a lot of skill required in setting up the cars. I personally think that Robert Duvall's character is there mainly to explain to the uninitiated viewer the basics of NASCAR in an entertaining fashion. My favourite comedy moment is the final duel between Cruise and the "Bad Guy" on the track. It's neck-and-neck stuff until... Tom Cruise magically remembers that he has another gear to go! He upshifts and blasts over the line to victory! Woo! Yay! etc.But who cares? It's a fun film, with lots of spectacle and is very much a product of its time. I liked it. If you've got a rainy afternoon to spare and a decent surround sound system there are far worse ways of wasting an hour or two.

Ignore all the hate!!!
Don't know why there is so many bad reviews of this it's the best the film has ever looked. The film was made in the 90s so it will have grain. All the reviews that say the picture is bad must have cheap 4k set ups because the film has never looked better.

Tip Gear.
Enjoyed this film very much, but what struck me was the theme was similar to Top Gun and even the music although by a different composer. Well worth a watch.

A racing version of 'Top Gun'
I love a good motorsport film and I'm currently working my way through as many of them as possible. For obvious reasons, this film is very reminiscent of 'Top Gun'-it was directed by Tony Scott, features Tom Cruise as the main man, has 'Show Me Heaven' by Maria McKee on the soundtrack, and the "love interest" scenes with Nicole Kidman are very similar to those portrayed in 'Top Gun'.Whilst the film wasn't terrible, it certainly wasn't anywhere near as good as 'Top Gun' and I've donated the DVD to charity as I wouldn't benefit from watching it a second time.A personal highlight for me was a race set to the backdrop of 'Gimme Some Lovin' by The Spencer Davis Group-Tony Scott definitely had great taste in music! There isn't much to say about the plot other than it follows the familiar "Hero's journey" template. As far as motorsport films go, I personally preferred Le Mans '66 and Gran Turismo which is currently in the cinema.
