Just to clear up a few things in the reviews... First, the screws with the hex nut now fits cleanly into the shelf frame, since they have re-threaded the screw holes after painting, so no issue there. As for missing screws, I cannot imagine any ever being missing, since the screws are packages with exact quantity presented for each type and each type of screw identified on front and back of the package. As for not holding the weight. That is because the installer cannot read. The manufacturer states in a clear picture NOT to install the squares in a four square way, instead install in parallel; otherwise, it will not hold up. So, all the issues found in the product have either been removed by the manufacturer or the problem was with the installer. One additional note. When you tighten the anchor screws, do not over-tighten. Too much and it will weaken the wood. Just tighen the screws until the angle brackets are tight. This will maximize the holding ability of the screws.Now for my install. I am an retired engineer, 65 and I did without any help. Do to some of my joists in the attic being 30" apart while some were 16-24" apart, I decided I could not mount to the ceiling near the wall, so I did attach it to the wall instead. There is a YouTube video of a guy that did this. I did not follow the manufacturer instructions for wall installation, which would not have worked since the wall joists would not align with the shelf straps. The outside ceiling anchors were as normal (except, I did use washers (this spreads the weight and keeps the bolts from ripping off the paint) and added a 3" GRK screw to the anchor center spot.), but the wall anchors (angle bracket) were placed flat side up and across the wall to give a heavy duty ledge for the shelf to sit. Now that the anchors on the ceiling and wall were in, I made two 4x4 shelves (instead of putting the full 4x8 self together first) and install both on the ledge and ceiling mounts. Tied the two 4x4 shelves together and then attached the shelf to the wall. To do this, I used a carbide tip drill and drilled 3 holes in the shelf where the wall joists were located. Then, attached the shelf with 3" GRK construction screws with washers. The result was a shelf that does not move and holds me up while doing pull-ups, so i figure it will hold at least 600 lbs across the shelf. I like the attached to the wall, since I can stack stuff near/against the wall with no issues on the shelf.

The instructions are well written and offer pictures/diagrams to help with understanding the installation/planning.There were two things that I did not quite think through in terms of planning "where" to install the overhead storage:1. overhead rafter locations2. ceiling lights (fluorescent) or other installations that may get in the way (garage door track, etc).Once I found the proper location, the installation was rather smooth. You'll be working over your head to secure the ceiling brackets - I found that to be the most challenging part. You must know where the studs are and ensure that you're properly setting the lag screws. With the ceiling brackets in place, the rest was not too bad and flowed well with the instructions. They engineered the vertical drops to assist with setting the suspended metal base (they have a lip to catch the edge of the base)...that made it easy to set in place. I had two vertical brackets that were not lined up true and I struggled to get the sheet metal screws in. But then it dawned on me that once the verticals are a true 90 degree, the screws go in w/out issue. So, if it seems like its a struggle to get the screws started, check the vertical alignment.I like this product. Its very sturdy once installed and provided me the extra "off floor" storage that I wanted.I recommend this product and am confident that you'll be as impressed as I am.

This overhead shelf is pretty intuitive to put together-- there are labeled instructions with each part, and everything is pre-drilled to work. That pre-drill component is what hurt this for me since there was a manufacturing mishap which caused a flap to be a little further down on one of the grates than the others. This lead to it not lining up correctly so I was unable to put in 2 of the screws it came with. However, these are not load bearing screws, just meant to keep brackets together, so it should not impact the overall structure of it.The grates (base of the floor) are NOT 600lbs worth. I had to have a helper stand on the frame to screw them together so they could be flatter, and we both watched the grates bend. Likewise, hooking up the bicycle to the grates, even a kids bicycle, I could see some bowing happen. I have not begun to put totes on it yet, but I will say this accomplished the purpose of having items lifted off the ground so we could park underneath, but I did struggle getting everything together in the way it was intended due to manufacturing issues.

I'm used to putting things together but this took me way longer than I thought it would take to install. In part because my ceiling is 10 ft high and my garage was crowded so it took a while to move the ladder around and get into safe positions to install the ceiling brackets. Even so expect this to take a few hours even with a clear garage unless you're super fast at putting things together.That being said the build quality is very good and the instructions are clear and all the parts fit together. So the product itself is definitely five stars but installing it is a pain in the butt and you definitely want to have a second person help you lift the final 4 ft by 8 ft grid into place.
