How much of a gap is left on the sides and back? Could this be turned into a type of security box?

It is a shelf, and not appropriate as a security box. left at it's stock height, anyone gaining access to the vehicle could reach under it.

Yes. This is heavy duty steel construction and is weather/waterproof. This cargo rack is made for off-road use. It‘’s installed correctly, and there is no problem at all after the screw is tightened. ^^

Do I have to remove the back seat or can I just fold it down?

I took mine out to give me more storage area. You can fold your seat down and it should still work.

Does it fit a 2019 two door wrangler?

Sorry, this only fits for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ.
