Q: Are they dishwasher safe?

I can't help either. I bought it as a gift too and the parents don't have a dishwasher.

Q: Are these food safe? The box says they are a ‘collectible gift’ so just wondering if they are safe to actually use?

I can only say that I don't see a problem. Silver plated cutlery is used everywhere in high class establishments. I buy items for Christenings that can be used, not just stored away. Hope this helps.
