A Mercenary's Tale of the failed Sychelle's Coup of 1981
Of Peter Duffy, down in Oxford he may be called an 'adventurer', my Scottish mother in law, in her best Zulu, would have said to Duffy "skebengo wena". Linscott shows he has done his homework on this character Duffy "is a raconteur of note". Duffy's story, a youth of Scotland a life lived as an adventurer, the final adventure his appearing in the Natal Supreme Court along with "a motley of mercenary soldiers from several continents" on charges of "air piracy. They were alleged to have attempted a coup d'etat on the Indian Ocean islands of the Seychelles". The group of mercenaries, was lead by Colonel Mad Mike Hoare who two decades earlier was active in the Congo as a mercenary.Ricochets is a short (191 pages) book and an easy read. Linscott also wrote a biography on the life of Ian Player who was highly regarded for his rhino preservation and other wildlife conservation work in South Africa. The title, Into the River of Life.
