If the saying goes that a fool and his (or her) money is easily parted, never more so than in relation to beauty products could this be true. That is, until you consider the quality of ingredients that you are paying for. Weleda are an ethical brand who don't spend eye watering sums on celebrities and advertising to get you to buy their products. Instead they produce extremely high quality items and charge a fair price. I've used the Weleda almond cleansing milk which is extremely hydrating and less scented than this product. This product smells blissful. The combination of essential oils (including Jojoba) provides a strong, yet lovely smell. The cleanser is milk like and not a cream consistency. It is readily absorbed into the skin and nicely rinsed off with water. The use of a glass bottle instead of plastic is an added bonus. Definitely worth buying as this product won best of natural beauty awards 2011. It also helps the consistency and lifts the fragrance. The alcohol used in Weleda toiletries is fermentation grade ethyl alcohol, which is produced by fermenting organic plant sugars. Weleda do not use propyl alcohol which is derived from petroleum. \nPurely natural toiletries that contain plant extracts will more than likely contain alcohol. Companies where synthetic substances are permitted could use chemical extractions but when working with only natural ingredients, water/alcohol extractions are normally used. For some plant materials, water alone would work as an extraction agent but in order to give a shelf life of more than a few months, a synthetic preservative would have to be used. Alcohol does have some benefits for the skin. It is mildly disinfectant and also cooling. The alcohol content in Weleda Body Therapy products does not destroy the skin’s natural oily cover, the acid mantle.
