WOWZA! A text LOADED with examples appropriate for everyone, from beginner to advanced. There is something on every page to incorporate in your playing and improve. I mostly appreciate his practical approach so that I could learn new chords right away and actually use them. Loads of practice tips. MOST HELPFUL TO ME were his explanations on "voicing" and his Type A and Type B methods which were easy to understand and learn. "Voicing" can be "mystical" in some other texts, but J. Siskind really explains it well - and helps you do it the right way, right away. The improvisation exercises "build" from key phrases to whole passages.

Pretty much everything about this book was thoughtfully put-together. I was a bit skeptical at first before purchasing -- most other jazz books TBH can meander a lot and are unstructured, but this book was not that.The way this book is written is very digestible and relatable. I think it's excellent for anyone who wants to actually learn and play jazz piano at a more fundamental level (it's in the name of the book). The exercises are doable and helpful as well. Lastly, the QR codes that link to videos are a super nice touch. A+ book.

This is a very well thought out course with lots of good material. Need to dedicate time to play most days and work through the material to learn the complexities of jazz.

I have Mr. Siskind's book on solo piano and it's great, so I took a flyer and got this. I've been studying jazz piano pretty seriously for about 4 years now with private teachers and have found it enormously frustrating. Many times I feel like just giving up. This book is absolutely first rate. He's done a tremendous job. I could write 5,000 words easily going through everything that is constained in this book, but to summarize, this is a significant contribution in jazz education. I found a wealth of information in just the first few pages. Bravo to Mr. Siskind, and thank you.
