SRAMAM RD EX1 8SPD BLK

Not happy with the Sram EX1 derailleur.The EX1 cassette chain and shifter seem ok the cassette is especially good and seems very well made. After all it is CNC machined from a solid billet of tool steel.This is my second derailleur which has has a catastrophic failure and has been completely wrecked . It seems that the bottom pulley has come free from the cage and then the chain has ripped the derailleur from the mech hanger.As someone else has mentioned it could be the screw that holds the pulley in the cage backing out. It does seem a weak point . I'd rather see a bolt with a nylon nut on it and if I was going to continue using this system I think I would do a retrofit myself with a bolt. It also is a very long cage and is close to the ground which is asking for trouble.I'm m not going to continue using this system and I have decided to bite the bullet and dig deep into my wallet and get a Rohloff Speedhub. I only hope this will be as bullet proof as everyone says it is.I am running a Barfang BBSHD1000 and although Rohloff do not suggest their hub is suitable for such a powerful mid drive i feel confident that with some careful use it will be far more reliable than the disappointing Sram EX1 system.My recommendation is either stick with a fairly cheap and cheerful derailleur set that's cheap to replace or do a bodge on the EX1 with a bolt retrofit or get your money out and go for the Rohloff.
