Excellent varnish
Id always used the Daler Roney gloss acrylic varnish but its getting so expensive I thought Id give this a try. You get 100ml more for less money so I was hoping it was going to be ok...well it is! Its in a plastic tub with a silver seal across the varnish. This is quite tricky to remove but manageable with a sharp knife...once you get it started it comes off OK. The varnish is excellent - got a really good smooth finish. It does dry relatively quickly - touch dry in a couple of hours but Id leave it 24 hours to become properly hardened. I used it on a canvas and it leveled out all the small bumps you get on a canvas as long as you apply it liberally enough or put two coats on as I did. The best thing is the tub is big enough to get a brush in so you don't have to pour it into another container. You need to make sure your paint is properly dry though or you will transfer colour to the tub rendering the varnish useless . I will definitely be buying this again as Im getting great quality for less money - win win.

Good professional quality varnish.
Varnish restores depth of colour in a painting, Particularly imparting an oil like finish to acrylic. This is also uv resistant. I see people panicking that the varnish looks milky or bubbly when applied, but it dries clear and flat. The painting must be absolutely dry of course or it will "bloom", go milky, and no part of it should be soluable, watercolour or non waterproof ink. Do check out the odd YouTube video on varnishing if you're new to it. I liked this and am happy to recommend it.

Satin - Very runny and need several coats but finished product excellent.
Satin - was very runny and needed coating at least 4 times to achieve Satin (medium gloss) finish, made the texture of the clay/acrylic smoother and gave depth. The product goes on well and fills crevices with milky white which turn clear when dry, it did not dry too fast which allowed for sections to be done at a time. Pretty good product, I would have liked to do less coatings with a slightly thicker solution.

nothing compares to the quality of Winsor Newton, flows and mixes with pigment beautifully, dries clear and highly recommend.

Wonderful Varnish
This is the best matt varnish I have used. It went on evenly and it was easy to see where I had missed areas. Any bits I went over twice whilst still wet didn't drag. Needs just two coats, and 24 hours between, and the finish is just right.I used a third of a 474ml tub on a 36" x 48" canvas. Easy to clean the brush I used, I soak mine in white spirit for an hour or so then in warm water with splodge of clothes washing liquid for the same time. I would be interested in trying their gloss version too.

Not the best of lid designs
I would give it more stars had the lid been easier to open. I ended up having to pour all the varnish into a glass jar with a proper lid because the second time I opened the pot I spilled quite a lot of varnish on the table. Also, there was a lot of black dust between the lid and the seal when I first opened it for some reason and a bit of the dust fell into the varnish...Apart from that, it seems to work just fine.

Definitely not a Matt Finish
Very disappointed to find that the dry finish has quite a glossy look to it. Matt should mean matt ie. No shine, not satin or gloss and this is definitely more gloss than satin. Have used Winsor & Newton Matt in the past for my models and was vey happy with it. Looking at the back of the bottle the matt being reviewed is shown to be in the middle of the gloss to matt scale information. The varnish I have used in the past has the mark at the matt end of the scale. It would be useful to know these details by having a photograph of the back of the bottle so the buyer can determine if it meets their needs. If you want a proper MATT finish then DON'T buy this! Otherwise a good varnish which is easy to use if you want a finish that's shiny.

Hard to Find
It was really hard to find W&N Acrylic Medium Matt UV Varnish (or other brands too). Most are (semi-) gloss or satin. Given the larger size, it was more of a bulk price too so not more expensive.
