Safe for removing old paint.
This product really does work well. It is somewhat messy when it comes to the removal stage but the end results are really good and worth the effort.I have used it on an old cast iron (Victorian) fire place to remove years worth of paint and an old Victorian front door. The door had to be treated with a neutraliser that is supplied after removing the paint/product due to wood being porous. No big deal. But it does smell of strong vinegar which isn't that pleasant. The iron fire place was easier to do, and as it had not been installed was a cleaner job (no worries of ruining surround paintwork). No neutraliser required on this thankfully :)How the product works is simple - paste on thickly (product has a consistency of soft finishing plaster) then cover with supplied paper. Peel off after 24 hours or so, removing any paste with a suitable tool. This product type makes removing leaded paints safe as it prevents the issue with dust or heated paint that could be inhaled.Great product overall.

It does work
When I first used it I was disappointed because the paint on brick didn’t just come off. Need to use metal brushes on a drill with water aswell. BUT masonry paint is so hard to remove that without this product it would have been so much harder to remove for a diyer. It hard work but it works 👍

Very effective but messy
Stripping all gloss paintwork in hall, stairs and landing. Very effective but messy - do not underestimate the clean-up time! We have found it best to do relatively small sections and apply very thickly for best results. Second application needed in a few stubborn areas but definitely better than other chemical strippers. Smell is minimal but really need thick and long gloves. Vinyl gloves didn't protect enough so we have used thick washing up gloves to give more protection to arms.

Powerful stuff
Ripped through layers of masonry paint in no time.Use with extreme caution though, I got some on my skin and it gave me a second degree burn.Get a full white suit, goggles, big rubber gloves, ffp3 mask and a face shield,( the big plastic Covid type ones work well)Don’t let it dry and it sticks to your stone, peel the sheet off while it’s still wet.Other than that it’s good stuff!

Very poor
PeelAway arrive with the lid open and in the kit was only the stripping poultice and neutraliser. blankets and spatula were missing!

It does work
There seem to be lots of mixed messages about this product. We used Peelaway 1 on a 500 yr old elm door that had countless layers of paint on it, and the Peelaway stripped it all off.It isn't effortless, we did two coats, and it's messy, and then the door needed to be cleaned down and it still needed some sanding - we aren't repainting, we're leaving to wood bare so it needed a bit of refinement. If you're looking for zero effort, this isn't it (but then neither is any diy). And it isn't cheap. But no amount of sanding alone, or other chemical stripper like Nitromorse, would have managed this. So we do recommend it.

Not quite as good as the blurb says but it did mover multiple layers of paint/varnish/scumble from old door frames. Still needed a lot of cleaning off with sand paper once neutralised and dried as left small areas of thin white streaks.

Fantastic
Im renovating and restorating a 1870 Victorian terrace house and the living room had the original plaster coving still present. I decided to restore it to its original look but there was 100+ years of bsd paint jobs on it.I was using other strippers and getting no where until i bought the peelaway 1 for this type of paint. It was and absolute god send. It tore through layers of paint and only struggled with some real difficult spots that needed sanding out or digging out and refilling. The plaster was old and very easy to destroy with metal scrapersbut the peelaway allowed me to use plastic scrapers to do the job. What it took me 10hrs to do with normal stripper and tools, peelaway did by itself in a 16hrs left to its own devices.I gsmbled on a 15kg tub, allowed me to go round the coving twice with loads to spare. I just had to buy more blankets.Ill be using thiis again for certain its great.Peelaway 1 is for paints older than 1970 so leds as well. Peelaway 7 does modern water based paint. So order accordingly.
