Very Good with One Minor Problem
You put the assembly together yourself, which is great because you can match it easily to your microphone’s length. I mounted a Sennheiser shotgun onto it no problem. However, one thing to bear in mind if you use a deadcat. You’ll want to place the mic further back so that the deadcat doesn’t appear in the picture. That means with a shotgun, you may want to use the front screw thread to hold the front of the mic and the very back one to suppprt the back end.The choices for the cold shoe mount are limited to 3. There are 5 positions for the mic but only 3 for the mount. So you could fit the mount in the front placement...... AS LONG AS YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY USED THAT PLACEMENT FOR THE MIC. The screw threads can’t be shared, so you then have to move the front mount back one notch in order to allow this and the cold shoe will then go into the front, bringing the mic position backwards, but not as well supported.Having said this, I did end up mounting the mic, deadcat and all so that it didn’t appear in shot by juggling this. I put the coldshoe mount on the front and attached the front mic holder to the second hole back instead. That meant there was less space between the front and back holder to support my mic but the mic was placed further back and well out of the way. The strength of the mounts is enough to hold the assembly without drooping so it did in fact fit well in the end and I’m able to use a superb mic with my camera more easily. The plate projects quite a way back from the camera in this position so using a DSLR viewfinder would be impossible, but using a screen makes it no problem at all.So it’s a good mount and sturdier than I first thought looking at it. I can also boom the mic with it because the ‘suspension’ isn’t too soft.I do think they’re a bit too pricey though.

Not cheap, but well made and do the job securely
Yep, these are rather expensive, but I trust them to work for me for many years to come baring stupid accidents. It takes a big of effort to get my mics into the cradle, but they will no way fall out or move once I've got them positioned. Very solidly built in Australia (hence the cost), yes the suspension parts are made from plastic, but they don't feel brittle. A good product.

Good quality microphone shock mount
Like all Rode products I've used the psm1 shock mount is well built and does the job well. If you've bought a Rode microphone I wouldn't recommend using a cheap shock mount. Instead, consider getting yourself a Rode boom arm and Rode shock mount to go with it as they're sturdy and will take the weight. I can't recommend it for other brands of mics although I have heard of others using this with Yeti mics and Audio Technica mics. You'll find reviews on YouTube if you need to see if it's compatible with your microphone. Also, if your mic hasn't got a built-in pop filter I'd recommend buying the Rode SM6 instead of this as it comes with a pop filter.I use this with the RØDE Podcaster microphone and the RØDE PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Arm.

Overpriced but high quality
Seems very expensive for what it is, but you do get a quality product. Comes with some spare parts and is exactly what I needed to attach an NTG shotgun mic to my boom pole with a small profile

If you have a Rode NTG shotgun then you NEED this
OK. It’s expensive. It’s Rode! But …It fits perfectly. It is adjustable to many scenarios. You can clip off the cable to reduce cable noise. It looks cool with its bright red shock mounts. It comes with spare screws and a Allen key screwdriver. What we have liked in addition. A case or carry bag! We are so picky LOLThanks Rode. Another great price of kit from you.

Ideal for on camera mount
The NTSM5 works well with my NTG1 mic, but I still found I needed a bit of foam padding to secure it in the microphone holder on my Canon XH A1 camera. The thicker end is too big and the round smaller end slightly too small. But a small bit of foam solved the problem. Does a really good job of removing all handling sounds on the camera from the mic.

Don't skimp get this brilliant shock mount
If you are going to spend lots of money on an expensive shotgun mic , don't skimp on the shock mount. This Rode shock mount does the job and does it with excellence. It keeps firm hold of your expensive mic but at the same time supports it well so not transmit any unnecessary handling noise from a boom pole . It is also less likely to fall out of the shock mount and damage your mic which is easily done with the rubber band style shock mount. Great addition to an audio kit if you are looking for professional audio. You won't be disappointed with Rode products

works exactly as it is supposed to
shock mount works perfectly as it is supposed to. true there are some compatibility problems with the NT USB but it only stops you from using the dials and the 3.5 headphone jack but even then you can angle it so you can use them.

Durable / universal
I purchased this hopeful that it would be sturdy enough to hold my large tube condenser microphone. It is made of a high quality durable plastic and was easy to assemble. I am still using it after over a year later and have had zero issues

Excellent shock protection for shotgun microphones
Not much to say other than it does what it is supposed to do. The product is well designed and made of high quality materials. We have three and use them in the studio as well as in the field atop boom poles.

Great value for the price!
Easily screws onto the end of my fish pole. My Sennheiser ME66 Shotgun Microphones snap nice and tightly into the holders. The mic in the holders jiggle and feels a bit flimsy, but the mic is still held securely. Great value for the price, especially compared to other , higher end , professional solutions.

RØDE Microphones Rode SM4-R Rycote Lyre Shockmount
