One Piece: Collection 8 [DVD]

From Skypiea to Navarone
This eighth collection of the brilliant 'One Piece' anime contains a further twenty-three episodes (183 to 205) across four discs. The episodes in this collection cover the entertaining finale of the Skypiea arc before moving on to the G-8 filler arc.The first thirteen episodes of this collection conclude the Skypiea arc with the final battle between Luffy and Eneru, as well as including some background, in the form of a three episodes flashback, for Shandora, Montblanc Noland and the Great Warrior Calgara. The ending of this arc is very entertaining with Luffy's climactic battle being one of the highlights (even if it does take a while for the fight to get going). The flashback is very interesting and the true story of Montblanc Noland was quite emotional in places. The end of this arc also sees the overall myth arc of the series get a little screen time with some more information about the Pirate King Gold Rodger revealed. The final ten episodes in this volume cover the majority of the G-8 filler arc. Despite being filler, this arc is a very entertaining one and I would personally consider it to easily be the best of the One Piece filler. The arc sees the Straw Hats accidently infiltrate the impregnable Navy Base of Navarone, forcing the crew to avoid hundreds of soldiers to regain their ship and their belongings. This is a very good arc with a good plot and some interesting characters introduced, especially the extremely enjoyable Commander Jonathan. The arc isn't really an action packed one but what it lacks in that area, it more than makes up for with humour (including one of my favourite individual scenes from the series as a whole). The animation of the series remains as good as ever, as does the English Dub (although the English version of the ending song Dreamship is a little painful in places). All the new characters in the G-8 arc have very good voices in the English Dub with Mark Stoddard's performance as Commander Jonathan being a particular highlight. The original Japanese version is included as well of course. For special features, the collection contains the usual cast commentaries as well as clean versions of the opening and ending songs. This was another great instalment of the 'One Piece' anime and is easily worth a full five stars.

The ending to a god's tyrannical reign and the beginning of a new adventure.
The last One Piece box set unfortunately closed off the final battle between Monkey D. Luffy and God Eneru...but this box set all the more makes up for it! no longer standing for the dictatorship of "God" and especially all of the harm that he has committed against his friends, Luffy the Pirate from the seas below the skies takes a stand. Eneru intends to send the Sky Islands back down to mother nature itself...into oblivion! with the odds of thunder and lightning against him, how will Luffy, his friends and their allies obtain victory against the might...that is supposedly a God himself?

case arrived broken
Actual series is fine, but even before taking off the plastic wrapping the case had arrived broken at the bottom and now it can't close properly. I really wish manufacturers and stores would be more careful when shipping these.
