Memory foam pillow that works for both side and back sleeping
I've always found traditional pillows uncomfortable and for many years used a contour (M shaped) foam pillow with good success.A bit over a year ago I had a minor neck injury that has been slow to heal and since then have suffered with neck or shoulder pain most mornings, sometimes quite severe, often accompanied with a neck related headache. After this injury I found that even though it has mostly healed now I can no longer use a contour pillow while sleeping on my back as it would bend my neck forward too much causing severe neck pain in the morning. If I used a flatter more conventional pillow it was more comfortable on my back, however I would then wake up with severe shoulder pain from the period of the night where I was sleeping on my side.It seemed like a no win situation - thin pillows for a few nights in a row caused shoulder pain while thicker pillows caused neck pain immediately the following morning.I tried a few different pillows including a contour pillow with a depression in one side for the neck supposedly designed for both back and neck sleeping but this didn't work either - apart from being too small and too firm it caused neck stiffness because you would tend to get "stuck" with your neck always lying in the same position in the designed in depression in the pillow.I decided I needed a proper memory foam pillow with a traditional flat shape, and something that was soft enough to compress down when lying on my back so it didn't bend my neck forward uncomfortably.A lot of pillows that claim to be memory foam aren't - they're just ordinary foam, and usually too stiff. The giveaway is real memory foam is slow to return to its shape after being compressed while normal foam bounces back immediately. Press your hand with your fingers stretched apart down into the pillow hard then quickly release - real memory foam takes around 2-3 seconds to rebound to its original shape, regular foam will bounce back immediately before you've even finished removing your hand.I'm glad to report this pillow is real memory foam and is slow to rebound taking around 2 seconds to regain its shape after being compressed, and there is a definite "sinking into it" feeling when you first put your head down on the pillow. As for the results - when I first lay on it I feared that it might be too firm. A lot of foam pillows I've tried are too firm, and they don't even last one or two days before I've decided they're just too firm for me, as a firm pillow especially if it's thick like this just causes me neck pain sleeping on my back. This pillow does initially feel somewhat on the firm side, but I decided to give it a chance anyway. The next morning I woke up with a clear head and no neck pain for the first time in weeks if not months. I still had a little bit of lingering shoulder pain (which was ongoing before the pillow change) but that too was gone by about the 3rd day of using the pillow.I've now had the pillow for over two weeks and I've had almost no neck or shoulder pain at all, have slept well and have quickly adapted to the feel of the pillow. I couldn't imagine going back to any of the previous 4 or 5 pillows I still have lying around from past pillow searches. It's a fairly thick pillow, but this is good for side sleepers - I sleep on both my side and back but spend more time on my side. The stiffness of the foam seems to be just right for me - when I lie on my side it keeps my head well supported and doesn't "sag" much at all, keeping the spine straight, and it prevents my shoulder being "crushed" by taking all my weight - hence no more shoulder pain in the morning. When you lie on your side it feels like a firm pillow. But when I lie on my back my neck and head seems to sink into the pillow a lot deeper and this prevents any sharp bend in the spine and for me at least is avoiding any neck pain. On my back it feels like a soft pillow, not firm at all. It's ability to feel firm and supportive on my side but soft and comfortable on my back is quite remarkable.I've been searching for the right pillow for over a year now and can't believe I've finally fluked onto one that feels just right and at only £27 I've just ordered another one for my partner so we have matching pillows!

Great night sleep.
Neck discomfort has disipated, the pillow offers semi firmness so can breath when side sleeping and semi firmness and good soft support when laying on back. Highly recomend

Different batches?
I bought two of these pillows, three months apart. Supposedly the same pillow & they look the same, but one is soft & the other is hard. Now I rather like the choice, but others may prefer consistency.

Having a good nights' sleep
So far, these have been really comfortable, although we've only had them a short while. Supports head and neck well, even for a side sleeper using a CPAP machine. Good value product, and good firm quality.

Works and cheaper than some other products
Yes it has a smell initially but I cantered both sides left it to air a few days and did the same again after a few days to get to the smell deep inside. It’s great now and has reduced my neck and shoulder ache

Comfortable, but the cover isn't so great
This pillow felt really nice when I got it and it still does. However, the cover went from feeling airy to feeling like a bobbly mess all the time. It pills up whether or not I'm more mindful about how I wash it, it attracts lots of hair when I sleep, it pills when I sleep and the cover is very difficult to put on.The opening of the cover is very small, so I have to squash the pillow into the thing and then wrench the cover around it while hoping for the best. It's then annoyingly difficult to zip up, because the sides of the zip don't align properly. Every time, I wondered if the cover would tear from the sheer force I had to use to get it on and it's done just that--thankfully, not in a way that makes it unusable YET.The cover just bothers me. The pillow also seems to have had chunks indented from when I've maybe fallen asleep with headphones on. Worse still, because I had to pick out the bobbles, I seem to have ended up with lots of loose microfibres which I fear are making me cough a lot more or there's certainly a fear of that happening. Just doesn't feel very reassuring or safe anymore, but it's my choice to keep using the thing for now.I think I need a different size of pillow to match what I've normally used before this, but I think I'll choose a different brand or style.

Most important point - not memory foam!
I really thought these pillows were the answer to my problem with finding the right support for my back issues - so wrong! I really should have listened to the negative reviews. The pillows are well made. The offer of a years warranty is appealing and the message on the tag inside the pillow is promising, get in touch with them if the zip breaks or the pillow is too hard or too soft.My only issue is that they are most definitely NOT memory foam. I sleep on a memory foam mattress, with a memory foam topper - I understand exactly how memory foam functions. Press a hand on it (just like the very nice image on the product page) and it leaves an impression that slowly goes. Slow rebound. That's what is expected of memory foam. What you'll get with these pillowLY pillows is fast rebound, the type of foam that bounces back instantly it's touched. Although I don't think much more than a lump of stone would make an impression. This type of foam is not accommodating to a painful spine. It doesn't make a nice impermanent hollow for the skull to fit, for the cervical spine to rest easily in. There is no room for any hope that the pillow will ever be more than a firm foam pillow, which may suit some bodies, but not mine and not anyone who has chronic spinal issues for any number of reasons. Not truthfully advertised. They would sell well as a foam pillow. They are, as I said, well made, and not too high a price. So shame on the seller for trying to pass this lot off to people who desperately seek a comfortable nights sleep, with the hope of waking pain free to begin another day.I fell for the hype. I liked the pretty pictures and the price tag. I should have listened - but you have been warned, and the decision to waste money on something that isn't what it's supposed to be is on you!
