I'm not 100% sure what this is made of. It looks like wood, but isn't. It's not metal either. It's likely some resin or plastic. You can tell it's been molded since you can see the seam. Also, one of the spikes on each ball doesn't have a tip, but is hallow. That tip can scrape your skin - it isn't smooth at all. I didn't roll it in between my hands and didn't notice any of the finish rubbing off, but I didn't do it too long and my hands were dry. Anyway, I'm not sure I'd spend more than $2 to $3 on these if I'm being honest - definitely not close to $15.

These are hollow, with an actual hole in each, and printed with a poorly done wood design.

i really liked this until I realized that not only is it not wood, as advertised, but whatever is coating it comes off on your hand. not that you can see it on your hand but over time the surface is worn off, so then where is that material going? presumably into your skin. yuck.
