Does the rod actually reel in the fish? Or does the hook just rotate, but not lift the string and the fish?

It does not actually reel in the fish. It would not do any lifting. My son still loves it, though.

Can my baby use this product a lot?

Yes they will get a lot of use out of it.

My granddaughter loves them! This particular item comes with a mesh bag you can hang all items in & they dry while out of the way. We hang them on a suction cup hook.
