This Little Trailblazer: A Girl Power Primer Review: A Great Message for our Kids - Our toddler son loves the "This Little..." series, so we decided to purchase this for him and our infant daughter. From the first page, this is a great book for little girls. The book emphasizes brains over beauty, with the first lines stating, "Paving the way to a future that's bright. Helping the world with their skills, smarts, and might..." Each page walks readers through a female trailblazer, including Ada Lovelace, Florence Nightingale, Coco Chanel, Ross Parks, Maria Tallchief, Wilma Rudolph, Sonia Sotomayor, Ruby Bridges, Maya Lin, and Malala Yousafzai. The book celebrates diversity by representing women of different ages, races, backgrounds, professions, time periods, and more. What a great message to send to our children. Each woman receives an entire two page spread with the left-hand side including a four line rhyming poem about the individual, while the right-hand side provides a few additional facts about her. The final two page spread includes 12 extra women with a brief description/accomplishment. Visually, the book looks fantastic. Bright, bold colors. The drawings are illustrated, but have simple yet effective details. Structurally, the book feels sturdy. We are very pleased with this purchase. Review: {My thoughts} – I always enjoyed reading the books that Joan Holub writes - {My thoughts} – I always enjoyed reading the books that Joan Holub writes. These Primer books are no different. I like that they help to teach children about people that have helped to shape the world in which we live. That they help to teach children about those that have made a difference in the world in which we live. A good difference. In this particular book the focus is women that have made a difference. I enjoyed reading the nice little introductory rhyme on the first page and then the facts about the individual on the following page. I also enjoy how the illustrations and the words on the pages go together hand and hand in a nicely manner. I recommend this book to any child that shows a hunger for knowledge. This book and the others in the set help to teach children important facts that will be beneficial to them in the future. These books are wonderful for children that love to be read to as well, because although they think they are just hearing a story they are actually learning about an important part of their history.

Fabulous book for our future leaders!
This book is fabulous for introducing smart, courageous women to our children. I bought this book as a gift for my 5 year old daughter’s friend to help balance out the overtly pop culture stuff picked out by my daughter, I did a test read with her and she asked me to read it over and over which led to many great discussions about the women featured in this book! I will be ordering many more to gift to all the wonderful girls in my life.

Great book about great and strong women!
Very cute book. I have a 2 1/2 year old and with everyone constantly saying to her "she's so cute!" "What a pretty princess!", it's refreshing to see a book about strong and brave women. There's nothing wrong with princesses to me, but it gets a little much after awhile. So I bought this for her for Christmas and I'm excited to read to her about all the amazing ladies who impacted the world and keep telling her that she can be anything! As a mother, one of my greatest hopes is that my daughter will recognize her potential!

A great first introduction to strong women!
This book is a great first introduction to many of the women who have shaped history! Each page is a microstory in rhyming fashion about different girls and women who have changed the world. I want my daughter to always know she has the potential to do or be anything so from an early age I started sharing with her stories about women who have made a difference in the world. This book is great for that!

Positive + Inclusive Role Models for Little Girls!
My 4 year old loves this book! Her 2 yr old cousin wants to read it every time she’s over, so we got a second copy for her. It’s on our nightly reading list at least twice a week for a year straight! Short but informative and very inclusive! Love it!

Great positive message in a cute and attractive board book
I really enjoyed reading this book to my baby girl. It was engaging enough for my baby (bright and colorful pictures matched with catchy rhymes), but had a solid message as well (not that she understands it yet, but I will enjoy reinforcing this message to her as she gets older). It’s a nice unique change to the other books we have. Very cute and original.

Such a sweet little book. Bought it for my (soon to be daughter) and my son already loves it. Really well drawn and the write-ups are short enough that we can read through a few before he gets distracted hahaha. Personally, just as a grown-up, i wish the information was longer, BUT it's a childrens book. As an aside, I bought the Little Leaders book also which has longer write ups, so if that's what you're looking for it's a great option to accompany this in your library!

It's quite US centric and the images aren't great but the book itself is a lovely message, decent quality board book which would be a great size to take out and about
