539 pages of fun
Let's face it, there are far more trivia than publishers can manage, even if we were to confine them to just classic movie trivia. In TCM Classic Movie Trivia, the editors have produced a very organised book that can be a source for party fun or just a quiet nostalgic flick refresh fading memory. It starts with Chapter 1 on Early Holly wood: 'Which leading lady was born with the surname Gustafsson? The book provides a choice of 4 possible answers. The true answer is revealed at the end of the book. Not inconvenient to find because of the superb organisation of the chapters and questions. The book continues with questions about the stars and Hollywood in 1930s, the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s - and beyond. Each part has specific subjects, such as 'The Leading Men' and 'Comedies'. And if you think this is not sufficient, the excellent collection of black and white photographs are so absolutely stunning - do we need digital photography when black and white film produces such quality? And yes, What is Barbara Stanwyck's second film with Gary Cooper? (a) Ball of Fire (b) Love in the Afternoon (c) Night Nurse (d) The lady Eve? (Answer: Ball of Fire).

If you are a huge film lover...
If you are a huge film lover and I don't mean just contemporary films, then this is the book for you. It covers movie trivia from the silent era until now. It asks questions about genres and films by stars. As I go through this book I learn about the movies I've seen; I learn about movies I haven't seen and I test my knowledge of what I think I know. It is a fun book but only if you are into classic movies (or know about them or want to learn more about them) as well as contemporary movies.

"Tough Movie Trivia" for $1,000, Alex!
This is an entertaining book. It consists of short (one page) accounts of different movie decades, movie actors, and movie genres accompanied by 4,000 multiple choice trivia questions. The text is interesting, although most of the material will be familiar to movie buffs. But, man, are the trivia questions hard. Here are a few examples (all found on the same two-page spread, so I didn't hunt around for particularly hard questions):"What is the name of Rudolph Valentino's second wife?""In what year was George Marshall born?""At the age of thirteen, Lupe Velez was sent to live in a convent located in which U.S. state?""Who played Anna May Wong's husband in 'Bits of Life' (1921)?""In how many Laurel and Hardy shorts did Jean Harlow act?"I consider myself a fan of old movies, but I had no clue about the answers to these questions. There are about 10 or 11 questions per page and I would be doing well if I could answer one or two questions on a page. In many cases, I had never even heard of the movie or actor being asked about.Still the book is a fun read and is illustrated with a good number of neat black and white photographs. One final point: It took me some searching to find who wrote the (non-question) text in this book. Robert Osborne -- the host of TCM -- contributes a forward and his name is on the cover, but he didn't write the text. The next to last page of the book indicates -- if I'm interpreting it correctly -- that Frank Miller, a professor at Georgia State, wrote either most or all of the text. It's kind of ironic that in this era of hyper crediting in movies -- even the guy who brings the director a ham sandwich during a break gets his name in the end-of-movie credits -- this book makes obscure the most important credit a book can have -- the name of its author.

Impressed!
I ordered this book as a christmas gift for my father-in-law. It took a little while for it to come in, but when it arrived I was impressed at how good of condition it was in. The book looks great! It holds a bunch of trivia questions and is split mid-way through the book with the men of TCM and the "leading ladies" of TCM. My father-in-law is a HUGE TCM fan, and I know he will love this book. If you or someone you know is a big TCM fan, you should definitely purchase this gift :)

You think you know film trivia?
This book will certainly test your knowledge. This book will show you just how little you know about classic movies. It's a humbling experience, but you will learn as you go and you will be able to amaze your fellow film buffs when you have worked your way through this big book of trivia questions. I consider myself fairly knowledgable about classic movies, but I have been unable to answer more than a couple of questions per page. A challenging experience, you can enjoy with friends.

Not what you might expect!
I loved Robert Osborn, but I really missed the mark on this item. It is a beautiful book but it is set up like a trivia game, hundreds of questions with multiple choice answers. I wanted a book that shared interesting trivia about specific movies and or classic stars. Oh well my bad probably didn’t read enough details.

Movie-nerd bible
I'm a total movie-buff and I loved this. It holds interesting facts and loads of questions I didn't even know that I did the answer to. Screw the Sunday-crossword. This is the stuff.
