I do not allow smoking in my house, and so friends and family are shamed to the back porch for smoking. I used to have 3 or 4 ash trays around, which were a big pain and pretty unsightly. The cats would knock them over, spill butts and ashes every where and break the ash trays. Also, the wind would catch them and blow stuff every where. This remedied all that. It arrived in a humongous box fairly quickly. Its all made of medium grade plastic, not the real thick stuff, but not too thin either. There were 4 pieces and the inside metal pail. They went together very easily, snapping into place. The bottom of the can needs to be filled with sand or rock or bricks to keep it from tumping over, then the pail is filled with sand and placed in the fitted bottom. Where the top and bottom snap together, there is a place to slip a lock in so that it absolutely cannot come apart unless you want it too. We have been using it bout 2 weeks now, with no problems what-so-ever. And it make my back porch so much more clean looking! I am happy with my purchase.

Easy to put together and serves its purpose.

It was bigger than I expected, but I like the style, and its better than looking at than cans or glass jars for cigarette butts! My husband and I are non-smokers but our smoking sons visit and its already out on our patio and I don't have to look at that c**p!

well made- looks sharp outside our office building. Now hopefully people will use it and not throw their 'butts' on the ground : )Nice job on the craftsmanship.

not sturdy at all.. the top keeps flying off.. the metal piece inside popped out .. wish i can return it..

I pour a little water in my bucket as a precaution. The plastice butt can is durable outside my back yard. Lasting over the winter in Boston very easily. Has a metal grill inside the hole to knock out the cherry to kill the flame before dropping. Great product

I bought this to put on the street in front of my restaurant. It comes in 5 pieces - the base bottom, base top, shaft, top and cap. Each piece is very loosely attached to the other, separates when knocked over and would be very easy to vandalize. To make the ashtray last more than a week, I had to glue the shaft to the base top and screw the top to the shaft. The cap fell off when the ashtray tipped over, so I glued that on too. Also, there is a hasp to lock the base top to the base bottom to limit access to the bucket. I did lock them together, but our local neighborhood homeless guy just twisted them apart and opened it with little effort. So I guess I'll be screwing them together as well. I'll be surprised if this ashtray lasts more than a couple of months.If you are getting this for your home, it might be fine. But it is completely unsuitable for a commercial environment.Update:I was wrong, it didn't even last two weeks. Definitely NOT RECOMMENDED for use in public.

They look good, were easy to put together. I haven't had them long enough to see how they will hold up against the weather. As of now I would buy this style again.
