To those who are confused buyers, you are doing it wrong and you do not understand Chinese Fans
I am Chinese and anyone from China will tell you the same. The Chinese Fan is supposed to be rigid when new / "out of box" condition. No you are not supposed to open them in opposite directions, only one. Opening in the wrong direction damages the fan. These are meant to be "cheap" but good quality material fans, which will become "loose" over time. This is called "breaking in" the fan, just like you break in a gun or gun holster. These fans are lightweight and of "standard" and common length and size. Paper quality is to be expected. The beauty in the simplicity of some of these fans that do not have illustrations or writing, is that they are blank paper. On a black fan, you can use silver or gold paint/ink, and on the yellow/tan/white fans, you can use any color you want. You can write your name, words, or any form of calligraphy, or even your own art whether its stamps, stickers, or other. Not only are these good for props, but these fans are of good quality. Yes, there will be pieces of wood from the fan that may "cut" through the paper. This may be due to many different factors such as the wood "slicing" through or pushing out of its intended glued or sewn area or slot. Frequent or over a period of use, can cause the long wood pieces to fall out of place. These are technically "average" fans but have standard quality to them, they will easily last 6 months to 5 years with occasional or frequent use. And by use I mean "open and closing".

Perfect for what I needed
I bought this blank folding fan to paint on it for a concert, it had a great size almost as wide as one of my arms so it was a perfect canvas. I’d say it’s pretty sturdy as well, there’s a little resistance when closing and it’s definitely not the highest of qualities but it was perfect for what I needed.

Decent quality for the price - know that you'll have to work with the fan for a while
Decent quality fan, moderate-weight fabric which won't tear as easily as silk does. The fan frame is made of bamboo and I was pleasantly surprised by how much of a breeze it kicks up. The quality overall is so-so - you'll probably have to make some repairs (one of the slats in the fan frame has come free from the sleeve it's in, so it's even more temperamental to close). Please note - the fan does NOT come with a display stand or any of the other items in the photo. Not really a major loss, honestly, though it would have been a minor bonus. Also, you WILL have to work with the fan to get it to snap open. It takes a while for the bamboo and the pin to become loose enough to travel freely to open. I have yet to get it to snap closed and doubt I will ever be able to do so with this fan because of the small slats relative to the amount of fabric that travels over them - the light, thin bamboo gets pushed away and causes some minor binding. It's easy to deal with, but your first few closures will require a little more finesse and it'll probably never close fully on a snap.

Quality fan
Quality looking fan that moves a lot of air, I didn’t expect it to look as high quality as it does, the color is really nice and it’s a sturdy fan

Ok for the price but I would not buy another one.
Pros- the fan is sturdy and large enough to produce nicely cooling air flow without too much effort on the user's part. Minimalistic in design so it looks good with anything. Cons-does not open and close easily due to the material used (thick synthetic fabric and unwaxed wooden staves) I think. Awkward to open and close. No eyelet on pin so no place to add a decorative dangle or a wrist strap for carrying the fan.

One of the best folding fans I've had
I've ordered quite a few folding fans recently to stay cool during summer fun as well as during my work commute in the Chicago heat. Larger 13" fans have always been fine for social outings but too large to use on public transit, but the smaller 8" fans tend too be too flimsy and break too easily. This fan is ALMOST perfect. The overall length is great; a good ~10" makes a nicely large fan but not too unwieldy. The spines are pinned together nice and tightly, so no errant openings (sorry fellas, no clacking this fan), and the fan portion is a nice heavy vinyl-type material, so it should withstand a lot of opening and closing. I say it is almost perfect because though the two outmost spines are nice and thick with a smooth lacquered finish, the inner spines are kind of thin which makes the fan feel a bit flimsy, especially with the heavier material seeming to move more air and cause more resistance. Overall, GREAT fan for the price and one I will definitely be reordering if I need another.

Best fan!
This fan is beautiful, well-made, and high quality — just what I wanted! The first one arrived cracked, but I requested an exchange and received the new one the very next day. I'm so happy I decided to ask for a replacement!

Wouldn't even close properly. Every time a went to fold it up some of the sticks were misaligned and meant I always had to fold it myself.

So I want the snap when I close it. Nope doesn't do that. It does snap open and it has a lovely natural feel to it - wood and paper. I use it for Steampunk so very good look. Wish it snapped back though.
