A Most Delighful Story Book by Master Story-writer
One of Roald Dahl's best and most popular story books, written with highly creative imagination and delightful humour. It is a story of Charlie Bucket, an endearing, good-natured and well-behaved boy living a life of poverty with his poor, loving parents and their aged parents all of whom are ungrudgingly suffering cold and daily pangs of hunger; how Charlie chances upon a golden ticket placed in a candy bar out of five tickets that allows him and his Grandfather Joe, and four other spoilt children and their proud and rich, doting parents, into enigmatic Mr. Willy Wonka's world-famous chocolate factory that is never open to the public; the wildly amazing chocolates and candies (like Candy-coated Pencils for sucking, Rainbow Drops - suck them and you can spit in six different colours, Square Candies that Look Round, Invisible Chocolate Bars for eating in class, Exploding Candy for your enemies, Cavity-filling Caramels - say good bye to dentists, Stickjaw for talkative parents, Strawberry-Juice Water Pistols, Magic Hand-Fudge - when you hold it in your hand, you taste it in your mouth, Mint Jajubes for the boy next door - they will give him green teeth for a month, etc.) being produced in the factory by some strange, laughing and singing Oompa-Loompa midget workers brought in by Mr. Wonka from Loompaland; and how fortune smiles on Charlie in the end. Songs sung by Oompa-Loompas are also full of fun and humour and delightful to read. Excellent book for the young and all those young at heart. Age no bar. I just read it at 63 and loved it. A perfect birthday present, together with "Matilda" also by Roald Dahl and "Crazy Times with Uncle Ken" by Ruskin Bond, to any young boy or girl.

---------------------------------------- „I, Willy Wonka, have decided to allow five children [...] to visit my factory this year.“ – that’s the main headline of the Evening Bulletin. As the news spread around the world, nearly everybody is in search of the golden tickets, which guarantee the win. Four winners are found very quickly: the overweight Augustus, the spoiled Veruca, the chewing-gum-chewing Violet and the TV-junkie Mike. Charlie Bucket, a poor boy, hopes for another ticket. And luckily he gets the last one. So he can visit Wonkas chocolate factory with his grandpa Joe. A lot of people might know the movie with Johnny Depp – so do I and actually I’m not a huge fan of that movie. Having read „Matilda“ by Dahl, I was curious about this book and so I read it. And I don’t regret it. The book is much better than the movie. Dahl has written a wonderful, fantastic childrens book with lovely characters. Once more he questiones modern leisure time activities and moral concepts, which are characterizes by the figures of Veruca, Violet, Augustus and Mike. I liked especially his appell to read more and watch less television – or to not watch television at all. Therefor I give the book five stars. Conclusion: A worthwhile book, which is far better than the movie.

The book's cover was torn and there was an ugly white sellotape stuck to the torn cover part. Absolutely unacceptable service.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has become a nightly hit in our household, especially in the Kindle edition. I picked this up to read to my 8-year-old daughter, and it’s now a treasured part of our bedtime routine. Plus, it's an excuse for me to revisit my childhood without having to explain why I'm reading a children's book alone. Right from the start, Roald Dahl’s world is captivating. The story of Charlie Bucket, his golden ticket adventure, and the wild wonders of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory is just as engaging now as it was when I was a kid. My daughter is absolutely hooked, and I’m pretty sure she’s considering a future career in chocolate tasting. One of our favorite parts is the character voices. I try to channel my inner Gene Wilder while reading, which is equal parts entertaining and disastrous. My Willy Wonka impression sounds like a mix between a mad scientist and a game show host, but it keeps my daughter in stitches. Her giggles are the best part of the day. The Kindle edition is a lifesaver because it means we can read anywhere—at home, or on the go. The adjustable font size is a plus for when my daughter wants a read. And the illustrations? Perfectly preserved, just like in the physical book. Beyond the fun, the story sneaks in some great life lessons about kindness and humility, and the consequences of greed and bad behavior. It’s a gentle way to remind kids (and sometimes adults) about the importance of good values without sounding like a lecture. In short, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a must-read for families. It’s fun, engaging, and a great way to bond over a shared story. Plus, it’s given me a chance to perfect my (terrible) character impressions. Highly recommended, and a solid 5 stars!
