For more than a century, the Ideal and then Lyman handbooks have been the reloaders’ core resource for proven reloading data. Lyman pioneered the concept of delivering a wide range of components to use in generating safe, accurate loads. As reloading has grown, so have Lyman handbooks, with each edition eclipsing its predecessor, growing in size and quantity of data and becoming an important addition to every serious reloader’s library. Lyman’s 51st Edition Reloading Handbook continues our standing as the proven source for reloading data. Lyman handbooks have always used the widest selection of cartridges, bullets and powder from all the major manufacturers. This 51st Edition continues our tradition was being the only data source using multiple brands throughout our data. Review: I have the 50th and the 51st edition. Has a number of load data options that my sierra and Hornady books do not. The only book i like more is the Richard Lee book. Highly recommend if you do more with cast bullets. Review: great info really up to date

I hand load a lot of ammo; pistol, revolver (9mm, 38/357, 44 and 45) and rifle (30-06 Springfield). I like having several references when developing a load. The Lyman complements other manuals in my library. In addition to powder loads, the manual has other information the hand loader needs occasionally. It's an all-around good reference book.

Still the most comprehensive book on metallic reloading. I still keep the old reloading manuals from back in the 1970s, because there are certain touch topics that I guess the legal types tell them to to cover any more, but if you're needing accurate and up-to-date information on newer calibers, this book has what you need. The trouble with many of the competitors that are married to particular component brands is that they tend to pencil whip (or entirely omit!) information about their competitor's products. Lyman is primarily a reloading equipment manufacturer, and even though I've always preferred RCBS reloading equipment, Lyman just doesn't have a horse in the components game. So, as the headline says: if you can only have one reloading manual, Lyman should be it. By the way, Lyman still publishes a book on bullet casting. (The 1987 edition is best if you can get it.) The great thing about that manual is that I has a lot of great information that's only tangentially related to casting. In general, even if you're not into casting bullets, it's an fascinating read.
