Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters - Part Three
P**R
The Complete Series Review on Packaging,Picture,Sound,Special Features and Region Code.
Finally completed Dragon Ball Kai Collection. It took a couple years but eventually happened. To be honest though, I feel that "The Last Chapters" was a very lazy release compared to original 8 parts. Each of the last chapter parts contain 23 episodes per set and about $5 more than a season set. It seems funimation took way too long to start dubbing these sets and ended up deciding to release each set one month apart from each other before those episodes even played on tv. This review will be divided in Packaging, Picture, Sound and Special Features. The Packaging:The packaging is pretty standard, 3 disc set, however I find the labelling to be a little silly. It starts at part one but the episode count starts at 99. Would it have killed them to just continue onto part 9. It may however to Toei animations fault, as they decided that the international market must call it "The Final Chapters". The packaging is also not in line with the Original Dragon Ball Z Kai releases. I would have preferred this to be released in 4 parts to match the original set - Part 1 to 4 Saiyan/Freeza Arc, Part 5 to 8 Android/Cell Arc, Part 9 to 12 Majin Boo Arc.The Picture:The picture is in 16x9 sadly, this is due to the fact that Toei Animation decided to remaster it in-house for the Boo Arc instead of using Q-TEC like they did for the Original 8 Parts. This now also does not match the original 8 parts, Toei Animation sadly made the decision to release it this way to the local and international market. I don't know why people feel the need to crop this show constantly. Overall the image quality is much better than the DBZ Blu-rays.The Sound:The Sound quality is excellent, Both the English and Japanese Dub are great, I can't decided which one I like more. English is in 5.1 and Japanese is in 2.0.The Special Features:These Sets don't offer much in the way of special features. Just Trailers and maybe one episode with the voice over commentary.Overall Conclusion:It is still a very good release, Dragon Ball Z Kai is still the best way to watch the series. It cuts down on filler, the pacing is way better, both dubs are top notch and lets be honest, this is not like DBZ where you have tons of sets to choose from. Please Note:These sets are region A only, unlike the Original 8 parts which were region A and B. So if you are importing, make sure you have a Region A player. I recommend getting yourself a blu-ray drive for your PC, and using the software PowerDVD or Macgo Blu-ray player. PowerDVD lets you change your Blu-ray region code and Macgo doesn't care about region codes.

Another Garbage Wide-screen Release
STOP MAKING DBZ WIDESCREEN!! IT WASN'T MEANT TO BE SHOWN THAT WAY!They did such a great job with DBZ Kai up through the Cell saga. Looked great in its original 4:3 ratio, great pacing, excellent new voicing. But Funimation pulled a Funimation and screwed us over yet again. Had I known these weren't 4:3, I would never have botten them.I will never buy another home DBZ release until it's 4:3 and with NO lazy DNR. I'm really sick of Funimation's crap.

No, Seriously, He Really Does Finally Defeat Buu in This One, No Joke
It's finally over. The iconic Dragon Ball Z anime comes to a close, and some of the series' best moments are on display here, including Vegeta's famous "you're number one" soliloquy, and the somewhat remarkable transition of Mr. Satan from repulsive moron to flawed but charming good guy. The pacing is still pretty bad, as it is throughout the entirety of Dragon Ball, and I personally do not care for how it ends. At least now I can move on to Dragon Ball Super.

Adios Majin Buu
I got the Blu-Ray without the sleeve cover. I know it's minor, but I like consistency. Hopefully the seller contact me soon.

Great Series
It's DBZ Kai. You either like the show or could care less. The picture and the audio quality are good. Not too many extras, just some voice cast interviews. The usual option to play with the Japanese audio with subtitles. It's what you expect from a Funimation Blu-ray.

DBZ Widescreen is meh- But the let down was a damaged case!!
Everything about this is great even though it doesn't have the original music score from the 90s TOONOMI release. But all in all this is a perfect way to watch DBZ . Filler is gone and what's left is the meat of the story and battles. BLU RAY CASE WAS DAMAGED SO 3 STARS! THE SPINE WAS CRACKED

Buu Saga Kai!
Sumitomo score works great for this saga! The Buu saga never quite fit with the rest of Dragon Ball Z, so it was only natural that it eventually was branded separately as "The Final Chapters" when it finally received the Kai treatment. Though Toriyama was hit and miss in this arc, it's still very entertaining and a little bit of a breath of fresh air over the previous 3 sagas.
